Because any alternative to the grid would also be a categorisation. And such a categorisation will not work with the bandwidth on subject matters and writing styles assembled under the h2g2 roof.

Hmmm. I think I see what you're getting at. Do you think then that the only viable alternative is to have EP pull things it dislikes, so long as it provides an explaination of *why*, and just learn from that?
Call to arms?
Frumious Bandersnatch Posted Jul 24, 2003
It's possibly not even a viable alternative, KA, because what we've GOT now is that, minus the accountability. GETTING the accountability is the only thing we can hope for.
Anything else would just be window dressing over that.

Uh, ... yeah. Pretty much. Only that they provide us with *their* set of House Rules/Ethics/Standards/whatever.
That might give us the same level of transparency/preditability as we have with the Eds.
Call to arms?
Geoff Taylor - Gullible Chump Posted Jul 24, 2003
I'm with that.
If the hierarchy is Ed Pol ---> Italics ---> Us Plebs, then I don't see a lot of point in agreeing any sort of methodology between us and the italics. The overriding authority is Ed Pol, therefore a solution that doesn't include them isn't a solution at all.

Call to arms?
SEF Posted Jul 24, 2003
Hello all.
I thought someone hinted that "he" wasn't the only EP and that others were contactable.
PS Since I'm my own SBVM, have I got to go away and leave you h2g2 ones alone? I will genuinely do so (ie unsubscribe and not lurk) if that's the consensus.

Kerr_Avon - hunting stray apostrophes and gutting poorly parsed sentences Posted Jul 24, 2003
An assistant is there. Assistants don't make decisions, they cover bosses' arses.
One of the main points about the SBVM is that we've *not* a coherrent collective. We do not exist. All free agents.

SEF Posted Jul 24, 2003
I don't think the assistant was the one hinted at, but I may have mistaken that. I'd have to go through the backlog again to see.

I demand that I will NOT participate in the "grid". Ok... I don't have to demand that. I demand that the "grid" is a superfluous piece of tripe that could only result in MORE censorship than the EP is already laying down. Ok... I don't have to demand that either. I demand to remain in a huff about all this.
So THERE!

SEF Posted Jul 24, 2003
Have we demanded to be individuals, KA, and should we be worried that we've come to a collective agreement that we are not a collective?!
It's OK Count, the grid will not begin at zero but at one - that's the way the A-numbers etc work.
