Today is the 154th anniversary of the Gentleman who turned cricket from being a pastime into a proper sport and also established an international series in another ancient sport; that of bowls.

William Gilbert Grace 1848 - 1915

Gentleman batsman and doctor from Gloucester.

Made first class debut as teenager. Full bearded throughout his playing days.

First batsman to score a thousand in May and a hundred hundreds.

Captained England in Cricket and in first bowls international.

Played against Australia after turning fifty.
