The Big Black Mighty Who Sang But Not Too Loud

Entry: John Coltrane, Tenor Saxophonist - A778502
Author: The Big Black Mighty Who Sang But Not Too Loud - U154086

This is an attempt to describe the life and works of John Coltrane... I have written this entry out about five times, and I can never finish with anything that really Flows, so I've stuck it in here...
Please give your comments,
Thanks...

WOW! I can't believe that nobody has commented on this piece yet.

It's great.
The discography at the end is nice, but perhaps you should refrain from making PERSONAL comments about the music. Quote critics if you like, or say things like: "many critics feel that", but it's hard to give ONE person's OPINION in an otherwise FACT based article.

Other than a few little grammar things, I think that this article is great. You should move it immediately to Peer Review.

Don't worry about the lack of flow, you're almost certainly thinking too much about it. Relax and trust me, it reads really nice. I can tell you know your stuff.

As a Coltrane fan, but far from knowledgable about his music and life, I thank you!

Gnomon - time to move on

I've read through this and it is good. It seems to flow well to me. The only thing that is wrong with it is that it launches into the biography on line one. It should have a single paragraph at the start that introduces Coltrane, something along the lines of:

John Coltrane, known to one and all as 'Trane', was one of the greatest saxophone players to hit the jazz world, specialising in a distinctive avante-garde style. His tenor sax playing ...

Then put a heading "Beginnings" followed by the first paragraph you have at the moment.

Doing it this way also introduces his nickname before you use it. There are a few spelling mistakes. If you copy and paste into Word and run the Spelling Checker, you will spot them, although don't believe everything Word tells you.

Bels - an incurable optimist. A1050986

I'd just like to echo previous comments. It's great stuff about a great musician. smiley - ok

I feel bad about this. I saw it when it first came into the WW, made a mental note to read it through and comment, then other things cropped up, I stayed subscribed but nobody posted to this so it disappeared off my Personal Space, and how's that for a lame excuse? But seriously, if you don't post to a thread at least, say, once a week to bring it back over the horizon it can lie dormant for ages.

We need more people coming here to comment on fine entries such as this one.

Absolutely Bels.

This is a great entry that may fade if not encouraged. The author, will hopefully see our interest and continue to write, continue to develop THIS works and hopefully OTHERS.

BTW good point Gnomon, a little preamble (a paragraph or so) would totally fit.

The Big Black Mighty Who Sang But Not Too Loud

Hi... I've now returned from holiday! Thanks all for reading and sharing your comments...

Yeah, you're right about an Introduction... I'll try and russle one up soon...

The discography was really meant to be a 'recommended listening' rather than just a list... Do you think it should go, or change, or what? I don't know... Bah...

Thanks again...
