Hiya Linda!

This is a nice entry - really well explained and concise smiley - smiley Nicely done smiley - smiley

Juat a few points:

> It's mainly about bruising of the skin; perhaps a small section on internal bruising or maybe a title change?

>What you describe is superficial bruising which involves subcutaneous tissue. Really forceful blows can involve the muscle, and this is imaginatively called 'deep' bruising. It's darker and looks very nasty.

> A few american spellings here and there; hematoma->haematoma, hemoglobin->haemoglobin, hemophillia->haemophillia

> Aspirin; a link to the Edited entry on aspirin would make me very happy smiley - winkeye

> Cortisone is a steroid; perhaps a link to here; A684362 ?

> Vitimin K-> vitamin K

> Arnica; an explanation of what this is would be peachy smiley - smiley

And finally (I'll stop typing soon - I promise!)... you mention that haemoglobin is broken down in the skin and that the bruise will turn from black to yellow and so forth... what it's broken down into is bilirubin, which gets disposed of in your stools eventually. Funnily enough, it's the same stuff that turns you yellow when you're jaundiced. Anyway, the upshot of all this is that the bilirubin gets deposited in the skin for bit until it can be carried away. During that time, it will make the bruise area itch like bug**ry, as I found out a week after a recent paintballing trip...

Anyway, if you think I'm talking out of my arse - feel free to reject all of them if you will smiley - smiley

Stay smiley - cool,
WD

Tatsuya

Fancy landing up next to an entry on bruises in the Peer Review smiley - biggrin

Coincidentally I'm just working on polishing an entry, A748910, about a blood disease called ITP whose main external symptom is spontaneous bruising caused by blood leaking out of the capillaries.

Thanks also to Witty Ditty for that steroid pointer (although it would be nice if the steroid entry had included a bit more about therapeutic uses).

No probs, Tatsuya smiley - smiley

I think that the current entry on Steroid Hormones was just to illiustrate what they do in the body, rather than as medication - but that may a great basis for another entry, perhaps on Steroid Medication linked to the latter smiley - smiley

Stay smiley - cool,

Ah, yes. Arnica! I thought of it as soon as I saw the title. Wonderful stuff. Seems to shorten the time the bruise takes to heal as well as help with the pain. Oral arnica is also good initially.

Couple more typos:

collegen > collagen

bloodstram > bloodstream.

Thanks a lot Witty Ditty! smiley - cheers

I knew that the yellow was bile, but I couldn't find anything to back it up. You've just done that for me. smiley - biggrin I've added the link, changed the spellings (darn, that proves I got some of my info off the net!), and changed the title. smiley - smiley I'll let someone with more knowledge and experience of deeper bruising write that entry.

I didn't link to the steroids entry, as it was about natural steroids, and I didn't think it quite 'went'.

Tatsuya, thanks for linking to my entry, as both entries (hopefully) pass through PR, it might get lost as we only link to Edited Entries. Let's hope they get picked together. smiley - smiley

ZSF! - thanks for the typos, I'll correct them now. smiley - ok

Why do all my entries sink to the bootom of PR these days? I'm sure my writing hasn't got worse.

Don't worry... smiley - cheerup I know the feeling... smiley - hug

I don't think it's that people aren't interested, or that they don't like your style. It's that PR is so jammed-up with entries that SHOULD be in the "Writting Workshop" that all the one's that ARE ready get pushed to the back... smiley - erm

I'm not actually sure whether people read the Writting Guidlines around here... smiley - huh

Good work! Just what question, what exactly *is* bilirubin? You meantion it in the entry, and people have explained more of what it does in this thread, but I still don't know what it actually is. Sorry if that's something obvious everyone should know, but my memories of O level biology are vague, and I don't think I paid that much attention to them while I was there!

Red Blood Cells contian Haemoglobin, (the bit which carries the oxygen) after a couple of weeks the red blood cell gets worn out, part of the heamoglobin is recycled and part of it is turned into Billirubin (normally) by the the liver and is excreted into the feaces.

smiley - magic

Hope this makes some sort of sense,
Z,

Yep, that makes sense, cheers smiley - ok

Maybe a note to that effect in the entry would help dumb folks like me?

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.

If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.

Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!
