Saw the match between Portugal and the USA this morning. 
What a match, that will teach that arrogant Portugese to play football instead of falling each time a player of the the opposite squad looks at you.

Yes, well done the States! They played well, took their chances and deserved to win. It'll be interesting to see how they do next Monday in the top-of-the-group-table clash with South Korea!

I agree
I am not really known as a fan of football, but I was glued to my set. I feel so sorry for the poor US guy who scored an own-goal. He worked hard all through the game. 
Ormy - do you know any of your members who would be prepared to write about the World Cup for The Post? Pastey was supposed to ask last week, but I rather suspect he forgot!
I know that you won't have the time, but maybe one of your other members would?

Actually, Shazz, I was going to mention the Rivaldo face-clutching injury-faking incident in this week's 'Notes'! But I'll ask one or two likely candidates and see if anyone fancies doing a full-scale World Cup column for next week.
I've recently spent rather a lot of time writing about past World Cups for a University Project that's almost finished. I've been doing an Entry for each past tournament, like this: A562033 . I was thinking of writing an Entry like that about the current World Cup, then giving it to the Post before putting it through Peer Review. But that, obviously, would be after the tournament's over.

There's no reason why you can't talk about footie in Notes as per usual - your fans expect it!
I'll see if I can persuade TM to do a quick roundup of what has happened so far and await with eagerness to see if you have managed to recruit anyone for next week. In the meantime (whether or not I get anything this week) I'll put a prominent link to your excellent footie page.

It's about time I did another sports-related piece for the Post, so I'd definitely better give you that World Cup piece next month! And so many 'Notes' columns! It's become an institution!

If you visit the Post Office (just click on my name at the top) you will see an email link. Save your article as a text file and send it on over. As you are writing something so topical, it will be quite ok to send it in on the Wednesday evening. Our usual deadline is Monday but, as Ormy knows - we make exceptions for worthy items.

Indeed Ormy - your original archive was getting sooooooo long it seemed reasonable to separate all your good works a little - plus it means I can put 'Notes' as a link all on its own from the 'Regular Columnists' section.
'Notes' is definitely preferred and essential reading for an awful lot of h2gers now!
I have created a Sports archive also - so all World Cup and Footie-related items will appear there... you'll soon have enough links to make a set of chainmail!

Shazz- I'll send you the world cup report after the England game on Wednesday morning. I'll send it then because I've got a Worcstershire-Durham cricket match to go to, but if I get a chance to use the internet after the close of play I'll email reports on the afternoon matches to you What would be the absolute latest time to submit the last report?

If you are putting in the coding (guideML), around midnight your time - if not, maybe around 10pm your time to be on the safe side.
