Look's like Abi's been getting about a bit, I got the message about joining here as well.
Hello.
Just a warning that I might not be too forthcoming for a while. The book I'm reading at the moment is Absolutely my Last (I said that about the last one) before I stop for a couple of months so that I can try and write. Still I'm interested in any recommendations of books that I Absoultely Won't Read until I've written a new story.
Currently reading Under The Dragon, by "cough" no idea (somebody Mcdonald maybe?). Semi-novelised accounts of the lives of different people in Burma.

Ooh, a book club! If you'd seen the list of books I've read in the past two weeks...
Purpledragon - it's /impossible/ to give up reading to write. I try it every day, and can't do it.
Advice? Stop going to the library, don't buy any more books, refuse all offers of a loan of books, don't buy magazines, take the cathode ray out of your telly (so you don't end up reading the teletext/get distracted by programmes because you're so desperate to do anything but write), sign off the internet. Sit down with a cup of tea or coffee and a blank screen...
In two days you will be prowling the house, looking for something to read.
In ten days you will have re-read every scrap of reading material you possess.
In eleven days you will be sick of playing computer Solitaire.
In fourteen days, you will feel mad, but will be ready to work and more importantly, to write.
That's what I've found anyway. So good luck - and remember - that book is definitely your last!!

Finished reading the last book last night.
Didn't get a copy of the Metro on the train this morning (twisted my ankle trying to catch it instead)
Haven't stopped lurking H2G2 avidly when at work......hmmmmm......
Mind still resolutely blank but getting better at noticing ideas as they come and go.

I find that I get more ideas when you read, especially when I read badly written books, as I could do better than that. Or so I think until I sit down with a cup of coffee and paper clip office assistance and a blank document in word, this is the point when I realise that writing will never be my stronge point? Oh Well,
Good Luck Though,
Z

kelli - ran 2 miles a day for 2012, aiming for the same for 2013 Posted May 25, 2002
Right, thanks for the holiday reading tips, I will let you all know what I thought of them when I get back.
Zed, what do you think is the best way to do this, shall I start a new thread for each book?
Can we all agree not to give away the trick endings of good stories too, nothing is more irritating...

Hey, giving away the ends of stuff is fun. Even better, convince people that there's going to be a really bad ending, when there isn't.
This attitude is what has my best friend screaming "You told me XXXXX was going to die! I was really worried!" at me (name deleted in case anyone hasn't read it). But she starts it by describing in detail a book she's read ing then asking if I want to borrow it, thereby ruining it before I've even started.

Have a good holiday, and starting a new thread for each book seems to be the way forward, I think, maybe if there's enough done, I could make a seprate article for it...
