Currently reading the first one, in English, and getting so engrossed by the story that this morning, I missed my tube stop with one station...

Is this series the sort of thing I'd re-read at least twice? I'm trying to decide whether to get it from the library (read it once standard) or buy my own copies (re-read standard).

Well, since it as a series of books, why not get the first book from the library and see if you like it first?
As for genre, I'd say it's historical fantasy for adults.
That said, I got 'American Gods' from my local library and then, when I saw a new edition with a fresh foreword from the author at my favourite paperback shop, promptly went and bought it so that I can re-read it whenever I please.

I read Book 1 in the series years ago and really didn't take to it at all. Eventually lent it to a work mate looking for a new series to read and was not unhappy when it never returned.

Am at page 521 in the paper back version, and have been so immersed in the story that I've missed getting off at my tube station twice (on my way to w*rk).
But it is a dark story, things just seem to go from bad to worse. I wonder how it'll all end?
And no, don't tell me. I prefer to find out myself.

Finally finished the first book, and oh my how many of the main characters that were killed off! And how many nasty ones there were, of which only one was killed off.

And I just finished the fifth (I think) book and was very frustrated to find that Mr Martin hasn't finished writing the sequels. Hrmph.
