A Conversation for H2G2 A/S Constellations Project

Look, I think this is a pretty good idea - can't really be 'the guide to tha galaxy' unless we have a decent galaxy guide eh?
But, while i've had vague education in astronomy - that is we went to the observatory once, I'm not an expert.
I am, however, a researcher. If there are any Constellations, nebulae, etc that need an article, let me know by replying to this conversation, and I'll take that one.
Gives me something to do at any rate smiley - smiley
I've always had a soft spot for the crab nebula, if that's not already done smiley - smiley

OK, it's settled.
I'm going to be doing the crab nebula.
Any advice would be very welcome.
Also, just type anything that still needs doing in this conversation, and if i don't pick it up someone else can!

Hi there.smiley - smiley
Before you get too involved with the Crab Nebula you should know that the constellations project has rather stalled at the moment. There are moves afoot to resurrect it under the auspices of the newly re-opened H2 University as a new project, but that hasn't happened yet.
I don't want to dampen your enthusiasm, but although the Crab Nebula would make a good subject as a seperate entity, it isn't actually a constellation and therefore would not be suitable for this project in itself. The Crab is in the constellation of Taurus and that one is already being dealt with by another researcher.
If however you feel like wtiting about the Crab, that's fine, but there's another 80 or so constellations to get stuck into if you feel so inclined.
All the best,smiley - ok

Thankyou - i had some idea that Nebula and constellation were suspiciously different words - now i know why.

I will occupy myself with the crab then, and hopefully when the project gets back up and running there will be some constellation free.

OK, good luck with the Crab. I'll look forward to reading it when you're done.

If you do decide to have a go at any of the constellations for the project, to avoid duplication, the ones available at present are any that are NOT on this list: A5835116
About 12 are done or in process, which leaves you a choice of about 76smiley - yikes.

Any that you do decide to do will have to be set out in the format shown on Cefpret's Leo A484265 ,for which there is a template here: A948026

There aren't any time restrictions at present and I have to approach the other researchers that were involved to gauge the level of support remaining for the project as some of them aren't around any longer. I'll let you know of any further developments.

All the best
DK
