try again ..
and I still you say that a person should take work if its available & if they are capable of doing it in preference to sponging off the state.
I consider that do anything less is an abuse of the system (at the very least on a moral level if not a legal one).

And I say, HappyDude, that if I want your advice as to how I should live my life, then I'll ing well ask for it!
I'm glad to see, however, that you appear to have conceded the point about the legality of my situation. Do I get that apology now?

I've taken a full time job, *and* I still get benefits, although not as much as when I was working part time, so it's not always clear cut who is entitled to what.
Now, who's for a chat about the lovely BBC and the fact that the licence-paying public are providing this great site?
Worth every penny I say!

Linda, fair enough if you read the backlog you will realise that I'm not against the Welfare State, just the abuse of it. I have absolutely no problem with the state paying benefits to the low paid to where necessary to ensure that children are fed, clothed and that families generally not forced to survive on an income well below the poverty line. (I have no idea wot your income or family status is Linda so please take these as general comments not a specific ones).
As for the BBC, I believe that no one has yet answered my original question “Is the money paid a Licence fee or would it more rightly described as an Excise ” (I've expanded the Q here from that which appears in the title).

HappyDude Posted Jun 6, 2002
an excise is a very specific type of tax so ... er ... yes

Mina Posted Jun 6, 2002
It's all a bit over my head, I haven't paid tax for about a decade, so I was a little confused.
A tax on TVs. Yes, I suppose it is.
