Hi, SchrEck Inc!
A lot of entries have been slipping by without much comment over Easter....but when I see the name of such a reliable Sub-Editor I think I should definitely comment!
This is a great entry - it's fascinating to think that such a tradition has been carried on for over 400 years. Has there been any break in all that time, due to plague, war or famine?
The entry is very thoroughly researched and very well laid out. There are a few places where your English could be more idiomatic:
The use of 'respectively' in the sentence '... a social event where ship's captains, merchants and their guests, respectively out-of-town business partners, are invited...' is odd.
The sentence starting 'For over 30 years' sounds better as 'For over 30 years, the same Head Chef has been responsible for preparing the meal'
In the menu:
Chicken Soup (not chicken's)
Isn't Kohl cabbage, not lettuce? (lettuce sounds a bit flimsy for this kind of meal!)
What did you mean by 'chester' cheese?
Calf's roast sounds a bit odd - is this a whole roast calf, or particular cuts of meat?
Anyway, I really like this entry, and I hope it ends up as an Edited Entry fairly soon.

Just one comment in addition to Azara's. 'Wifes' should be 'wives'.
I'm in agreement with Azara here. nice entry!

This is a great entry - as it has recently been picked, would you let us know in this Conversation when the entry has been updated - so I can process it?

Hey, that was a quick pick, so to say. The entry is updated by now, I hope that the things Azara mentioned got a bit clearer in the new version. And to address Azara's question, to my knowledge there have been no breaks, not even in WW II. I guess the event hasn't been so glamourous as it's now, but it seems to have taken place.
BTW, there's a website http://www.schaffermahlzeit.de dedicated to this event, but it is currently under construction. If it goes live in the near future and actually contains valuable information, perhaps the Subbie could add it to the entry?
Thanks for your comments.

Hey SchrEck Inc.
If that page gets put up in the near future just drop me a line on my page, at any rate I'll get a hold of you before I send the entry in after my editing to make sure of it.
Oh, if you want to check out your entry it's on my page somewhere, I can't remember the actual article number right now...
Anyways,

Hi Engels 42,
I just saw the edited version of the Schaffermahlzeit entry, good work! Just a small nit, in the 'Courses in Order' section, there is a blank line missing between the 4th and 5th item (aka the tags are missing for the 4th list item).
Thank you for subbing this.
