Gotcha, noted.
The guy with the copy of "Smith's Small Arms of the World" is gonna take a poke at it.
I'll take a whack at it tomorrow morning.

I'm gonna be away for quite a while... I won't be back for about 2 weeks, so this entry's not gonna' get updated for a while...

Oh, and Hoovooloo, any objection to me 'Copy & Paste'-ing that bit into the entry?

Yeah, no problem at all, if you think it fits. Any chance of going on the author list? smiley - grovel Always keen to make the list of guide entries I've contributed to or written longer and more random!

The Israeli Army only fires one shot at a time (Single shot mode).
If you want more, press the trigger more then once...

Usually when training, you shoot one or two shots in bursts of something like a couple of seconds when you are charging.

True - single shot is what MOST units train no. BUT: for things like the final assault on a trench (AFTER you've skirmished up to it and have already posted a grenade into it), or clearing a room in a building, a full mag and full auto beats single shot mode every time. Similarly in ambushes. Your concern in such situations is to spread as much high speed lead as possible over a wide area - accuracy is almost irrelevant. But for a target further away than even five metres full auto is just a hindrance.

Did the originator of this entry know that Pistol Barrels have twists called riflings in them also. And it's the Spin of the bullet ie
centrifical force which makes the projectile stay it's course longer. also the lenght of the barrel. the weight of the projectile.
The amount of powder. All those in the correct combination that brings about the true objective. Accuracy at long distances. For instance l've made shots nearing 1760 yrds.

Another thing that adds to the accuracy of a rifle. is the amount of turns the projectile achieves pryor to leaving the barrel.
