I often find certain words for some reason get 'stuck' in a similar way.
'etiolated' was a recent one. Always had it, even back in child hood (well, teens anyway, 'bout as far back as I can recall) - when words such as 'presume' or 'perambulate'.
I suspect, in an almost completely unevidenced and enresearched hypothesis, that it is because the word, or tune, is in someway strongly linked to itself. In much the same way that one idea or melody can spark other ideas or tunes, if the link is back to itself then it is constantly recalling itself in an endless loop. Just my idea though, probably isn't!

Worse than that is the after effects of playing Scrabble or doing crosswords where my brain will continue to find words to fit the missing clues or from some imaginary letters. But sometimes words with a catchy rhythm will also get into my brain.

hmm, yes, that's a point. It is certainly words with a rhythm that get stuck. So probably is the same mechanism at work.

I'm like the scrabble one, but usually after watching guitar hero, bejeweled, or that annoying bloxorz game everyone was addicted to. I can remember sitting there trying to move the bloxorz rectangle around when there was none

Thank goodness I'm not the only crazy person!
I have a DS game where you match up four coloured tiles and I find myself matching up the tiles even when I'm not playing. Like the colours are metaphores for the meaning of life and if I get the right combination, or set of combinations, the answer will be revealed!

I get that with... errr... what's the English name of that game where you have to find bombs by clicking on little squares and it tells you how many there are on the touching squares?

It is minesweeper, I had to stop playing that...

Actually, I haven't played in a while. Mind you, I've discovered another game, called Bubble shooter... I can't decide which is worse....
