Thanks for the pep talk!I have 40 pounds(???in stone?) to shed. The sheer mass of it is discouraging. The discipline of revising my eating is daunting, but if I only think about it day by day, instead of getting obsessed then discouraged, I'm fine. Here's another good reason to take care of this before you hit age forty or so: your metabolism starts slowing down and you really need less food. Try telling THAT to that plate full of yummy food!

Ooh! Sorry I missed you - haven't visited this entry in a while.
I know exactly what you mean. If it's in front of me, then I just *have* to eat it. Even if I don't actually need to. So the bin is my best friend at times...
Doing a quick calculation, 40lb is around 2 and a half stone. Which also probably sounds a bit daunting! But it can be done. Not only have I done it (four lb away from my eighth stone and only 17 left to lose), but my mother and sister have, too. And two other ladies at our club have made their target weight in the last couple of weeks or so.
Taking it day by day is the best way of slimming. That's what I do. Though it does help to plan a bit when you go shopping so that you don't impulse buy stuff.
When I go to the supermarket (not very often as I live at home with my parents), the only things I let myself impulse buy are herbs and spices, as they don't have any calories to count.
Glad you enjoyed the article, I enjoyed writing it!
