Well a good 'thrashing' was supposed to instill some respect and good behaviour into you. I was soundly thrashed at school twice by leather belt and once by a cane switch and I hated it and the damm teachers who did it. Thank heavens that kind of stuff no longer goes on here.
Lots of people still hanker for those days though, often calling for a return to this type of punishment.
Now if it was applied to the individuals of your choice!! Well that would be different then! The list in my head begins with some politicians, then leads onto some celebrities plus a few sport stars. The really annoying Barman at my Local Ahh, I could go on, but I won't.

Interesting.
Not that I wish I'd been caned at school. Think other punishments can be just as effective, without the bruises. Though I never could get my head round why they suspend you from school for skiving.

Does anyone believe that schooldays were the happiest days of their life?

NPY Posted Sep 15, 2005
Not really. I'm sure there's a lot of great stuff still ahead of us all.
I know I'm not long out of school. Uni was so much better.

Why stop there? In Ancient Rome, people who broke the law were sometimes sold into slavery, and/or made to become gladiators in the Circus Maximus or Colosseum. They would have to kill or be killed in mortal combat. Either way, they would end upa bloody mess.

Looking back 30+ years, I'd have to say yes. Once you're out of school and working for a living, you've lost most of the fun things that you were able to do in school. There's very little to offset that loss.

I hated school and college, once I left I had more fun than you could shake a stick at but then I was at school when most teachers were no more than sadistic bullies. My own children enjoyed school but not as much as my grand children do today, so things are much improved.

True, improvement is good. So long as it's in the right area.
And surely life after school can still be enjoyable? Always thought it was a choice. Like you have a choice where you work, and you can choose to a certain extent to be grumpy or happy with things. Glass half empty or half full sort of thing.

Oh, I found other things to enjoy after I left school.
There was something of a divide that I crossed when I left.
I couldn't believe how tired I was for the first six months
after I started working full time.

I'm sure. I left uni last year and I'll start working full time in a couple of weeks. It'll be so weird.
