A Conversation for Talking Point: What do You Dream About?
Acting out dreams ...

I don't know whether my particular somnambulistic activities count as dreams.
Dreams for my mind, are usually vaguely surreal and otherworldly - these I have fairly frequently and are usually the standard flying, teeth falling out, being pursued by a purple badger in a raincoat type affairs. However ...
I am nothing if not active in my sleep; talking, walking, humming, you name it I've done it. The 'problem' with all these activities is you need a witness. When I was with my ex, many more of my activities were documented although I usually leave evidence of my actions.
I'm quite adept at getting up (please note not waking up), absolutely convinced that something has to be done. Whether that be taking the pictures off my walls, answering the door, rearranging the furniture, whatever it is has to be done. I'm conscious in so much as I know that I'm doing it, and in the morning I remember doing it (especially when I find I'm late for work having unplugged by radio) but for the life of me can't remember why I had to do it.
Sleep talking is a family trait ... I generally don't shut up most of the time anyway so why be quiet when you're asleep. The most disconcerting thing is waking up mid-conversation and finding yourself sitting bolt upright in bed discussing the finer points of Mezzotinting with no-one but [object of your choice].
I have noticed though that most of my nocturnal ramblings and amblings tend to be induced by a solitary pint of lager shortly before I go to bed ... the strangest ones to date have been a compulsion to answer the front door in nothing but my birthday suit ... (it was 230 in the morning) ... and another time when I was convinced I was making pasta. The tomato sauce for the pasta was bubbling and spitting and so as not to get the duvet dirty I frantically tried to stuff it under the matress. This would have gone unchronicled but for the fact that my ex was woken up by an icy blast of air as said duvet was whipped from on top of her ...
Perhaps it's madness, or perhaps that's who we really are ... who knows ...

When I was little I would get out of bed and either take off my nightdress or pyjamas and get back into or just get out of bed and lie on top of the covers until I woke up. When I did wake the bed would be in the same condition as when I fell asleep i.e. if the covers were loose when I fell asleep, they would still be like that when I woke up, or if my mum had changed my sheets in the previous day they would still be tucked in tightly.
I also slepwalked a couple of times - one time I walked out to the kitchen and tried to change the garbage bag in the bin with a clean one. Luckily my mum and dad were still awake and steered me back to bed, otherwise I don't know what would have happened.
I have called out or talked my sleep, too, but I can't remember anything specific.
Annie.

how, no matter how insane, our dreams seem to make perfect sense as we have them?..
I have friends who swear they know they are dreaming when asleep..
Yet, I find that hard to believe...
It makes perfect sense to me to think I'm wearing a purple raincoat when approaching a totally nude lady in my dreams..
(only teasing you a bit..I understand the bizarre images..)
I never know I'm dreaming when in that state...
No matter how illogical at the time...
Sort of a leagal drug, I'm guessing...

Knowing that you are dreaming, and developing the ability to cotrol what happens inyour dreams is called lucid dreaming i think .And yes they do make complete sense at the time dont they..lol
actually, they do make sense at the time...
