I'm not too keen on the bowling idea - sounds like people are out to spend my money for me, which I don't have that much of...
And I EXTREMELY object to someone carrying a baseball bat. Why can't it be a cricket bat?

does it matter?
bowling is cool anyway...and we have to do something indoors if its wet...

Of course it matters - I will not stand back and see the erosion of our heritage! The whole world's gradually becoming one McDonaldised conglomeration of the lowest common denominator, with each country's town centres being filled with identical corporate shops with the erosion of all local individuality and spice which makes travelling exciting.
Playing with a baseball bat encourages that process, but I say NO! I will not become absorbed into a faceless mass that refuses to challenge current trends because it is used to having all decisions made for it, but stick to my rights as a free and independant human being seeking to preserve local customs and individuality everywhere and insist on a cricket bat.

Great Western Lettuce (no.51) Just cut down the fags instead Posted May 3, 2002
Right then BB, I needed to know whether to pick up a cricket bat by the end of work today, as I will have to pick it up from my folks' house this weekend. Now that you have raised my awareness on the need for patriotic duty, the decision has been made.

I have a cricket bat that I can bring (also have an old cricket ball). It's quite light and small so it could be used as a rounders bat also.
I need to know by the end of work today if it's wanted though or else I shan't bother picking it up this weekend.

im not a muppet. i can tell the difference between a baseball bat and a cricket bat. but a baseball bat is better for playing rounders, which is a fun game, and a cricket bat is better for playing french cricket, which is also a fun game.
thus, while mindless americana is bad for sure, a baseball bat is not a symbol of hatred.

I don't mean to keep bringing this up, but should I pick up this cricket bat or not?
I go home in an hour, and no-one has said yay or nay.
If I don't get some kind of positive reaction then I won't pick up the bat, and then there will be tears and tantrums all round.

Have we decided on a pub for the evening yet?
And do you realise it's the Reading Beer Festival this weekend?

Where abouts are they holding it?
That surely has to be worth a visit. There's nothing quite like drinking a cider that someone has brought along that is about 15% vol.
Beer Festivals are grrreeeaaattttt. *Best Tony the Tiger impression*

Ok ok.... right, bring as many cricket bats as people can find (at least two) I'm not sure if I still have one, but I don't have a baseball bat. We can play a game or three of cricket, and if people want and we have time, some rounders/baseball dirivitive. ???
Pub? Still torn between choices... I'll pop into some tomorrow, and test what the aptmosphere's like...
Anyway... didn't we invent baseball??? I thought the British invented most things... and everyone else paid for them...
