SOme basic dog commands. I've been as basic as I can!

I haven't added any links yet, I'll get round to that while it's in PR.

The reward system works with everything and everyone. It's just what you want them to do that differs.

Hi Mina,
The quote in the recall section looks really odd just sort of floating there. It doesn't seem to say very much or follow from the previous sentence very well, is there more to the quote than that?

Other than that it is looking good smiley - ok

No, it was just me sticking my beak in. smiley - smiley I thought it sounded odd to say bend over and fling your arms out and wanted to demonstrate it does work, but I can take it out again.

I've spotted some typos etc on my read through since it went on site, which I will fix later on, but if anyone spots them feel free to mention it in case it's one I still haven't seen!

First visit to PR in months and I find an animal related entry smiley - winkeye

A great entry.

Unless I have missed it, I don't think you mention 'Clicker' training. Personally I don't have an opinion on it but I know that it was considered the 'in thing' a couple of years ago.

Do you think it is worth mentioning it as a training aid?

I've left it out because I just don't get it to be honest. Click and treat, click and treat, why not just treat? It's so bizarre. And really I'm trying to be simple here, so I thought I'd leave out all training aids.

If it's in any of the training books I read, I just ignore if and treat alone, they still pick the tricks up.

I think the point is that eventually you just click, there's no treat. But the dog still sees the click as a good thing as it associates it with a treat.

But then I don't have a dog so I wouldn't know smiley - smiley

Ok ta, I could add a section on training aids, but there are so many, clicker, discs, whistles, etc that I'll add it to the bit where I mention that some trainers don't like using food.

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.

If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.

Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!

Nice indeed! Had I been on time, I'd probably suggested adding the only other thing I think is important, teaching your dog to walk nicely with a lead.

For once - and I think it is probably the first time ever - I nodded in agreement the whole way through a dog-teaching article smiley - ok

And yes, with kids it's largely the same. Consequence and love will get you very long smiley - smiley

Thanks very much!

I'd have to ask for contributions about teaching dogs to walk on leads as I've never been able to do it with Buster. Beauty came nicely walking and she pulls now. smiley - wah

Thanks to whoever picked. smiley - biggrin
