The jump from puritans banning christmas celebrations (mid 17th century) to the bakers making the first 'modern' Christmas cakes(which you place at around 1870) is a bit big... did anything happen in between?

Right I've got to figure out how to word this
In the late 1700's Twelfth night began to become popular again and was once more celebrated but around 1834 it started to not be celebrated so much and the focas was put more on the christmas festivities.

I hate to put a damper on this Entry but all the history of Christmas past is pretty much covered within the Entries included in the University Project at A661051 plus there is 'An introduction to Christmas Traditions' (A6904226), currently in Peer Review, which covers the same ground.
