History was never my strong point!
This period, however, is more interesting than many others, and I read (many years ago!) an excellent FICTION series by DENNIS WHEATLEY, set in the times of the French Revolution. Although this is fiction, the author gives a vivid and accurate account of the period and uses many historical persons in the stories (there are about 6 of them, I think, the central character being ROGER BROOK, a "James Bond" type of English spy.
How much accurate 'background detail' you might glean from these is debatable (assuming you have time to read for pleasure/relaxation, which probably isn't very likely!) but you might enjoy reading them purely as fiction - I did!

Hi there Bagheera,
Interesting to hear about the 'Brook, Roger Brook' books, ta.
My first thought is that there are quite a few books and other literature in which the Fr Rev figures quite centrally. 'A Tale of Two Cities' also springs to mind and I'm sure there are many poems on related subjects.
Any interest in producing a 'The Fr Rev in Literature' entry for the proj? That could be a great addition, and even if you don't, thanks for the thought, coz it will now be added to the 'to do' list.
Hope you'll consider participating,
Seeya

Having admitted that history is NOT my strongest point I may be able to dig around and unearth some literary threads for you - e.g. English & French authors writing at the time (or as with Mr. Wheatley, setting stories in that particular period?)
I'll see what I can dig out .... do you have a fairly urgent deadline to meet?
