>>There's no such engine as the Flying Scotsman -->
Couth, its a gresly A1 pacific, and its green
here is a picture of it from its web site http://www.flyingscotsman.com/
yes, it was also the name of one of the express london to scotland services, but it is a very real locomotive as well, and as the site says, it is possibly the most famous in the world. For reasons I haven't yet worked out, cause it wasn't the first to hit 100mph whihc most people claim it was.
Most of the engines that pulled the Flying Scotsman serive were built in Darlington as that was the GNER's works. And people sould be most proud of Mallard, it is british engineering that hasn't been equalled in speed or beauty.
(consider yourself corrected )

Thanks, all, I will get working on all these suggestions over the weekend
There may be a few things here which should be in specific 'town' Entries, though, not on the 'portal'/intro page, which is how these county outlines are supposed to work, I believe,
Will have a good look, anyway!

Isn't couth the opposite of uncouth?
Jules... I agree about some of the comments being more suited to entries on specific cities - particulary some of the stuff about Sheffield.
Perhaps we should punt for a researcher to write a Sheffield Entry?
No, not me (I've got Orkney: an Intro on the go. Then Perth and Kinross: an Intro to write. As well as Smuggling and the Wollemi Pine in the background )

Hi, Uncouth One here
Yeah, I knew that, only I'd sort of temporarily forgotten. Was the FS built in Donny, though?
I'm going to have to have my about the Mallard too, 'cos IMO it shouldn't be in the British Engineering Pantheon. In time, it fell at the watershed of the railways in Britain. Before the Mallard, there was greatness in both engineering and enterprise in that industry. After it, there was only a national disgrace.
In engineering terms, too, you can't get away from the fact that the A4 Class was just the ultimate refinement of an obsolescent technology. The true era of steam engineering came well before all that - hence the River Don citation (an engine more powerful at 12000 HP than any steam locomotive ever built).
The Sheffield Entry has already been written, of course. But is there a problem with Sheffield at the heart of this Entry? Let's get real - it's the one place in South Yorkshire which has made a major contribution to the destiny of mankind.

Yup... I'm in communication with Andrew S, author of that Wollemi Pine unedited entry
I hadn't sussed there was already a Sheffield entry

Entry updated
What do people think about the counties part (second paragraph)?
I have left some of the Sheffield details out as they are more suited to an in-depth Sheff Entry.
You'll get back to me ...

Could I also draw attention to the credited Researchers list.
It started off fairly self-explanatory from the original Uni thread but since being in PR others have added their thoughts. Usually in PR not everyone is added, unless they contribute a big chunk of info or work.
I don't want to include or exclude unfairly so please could all named contributors decide whether they feel they should be listed or whether they were merely being their general PR-friendly selves.
Thank you!

Hi Jules .
I quite like the counties part you've added. I think the entry works and flows very well now.
I'm not totally sure where the line can be drawn between a county and town entry - what information you include where, etc. I think this entry stays the right side of the line with regards to how much information is in about each separate town, but someone else may disagree.
Besides the unedited Sheffield entry that already exists, are there plans to do entries on Rotherham, Doncaster and Barnsley? I'd be happy to volunteer to help with those, though RL issues might get in the way a bit over the Christmas period (I have 3 weeks of holiday, and it's getting busy fast ).
I'm happy to be listed as a contributor, especially as I was on the Challenge H2G2 thread . I don't feel like I can take much credit as I didn't write it, though!

Hey Jules
I don't think I merit being on the list. I'm just Peering as usual
Also, Wentworth is *not* in Barnsley. It's in Rotherham. See this website if you don't believe me http://www.rotherhamweb.co.uk/district/wentworth.htm

I believe you, really I do, sorry...I think I got that because Barnsley is very keen to advertsie Wentworth Gardens as their top attraction
Will sort. Somehow.

The boundary between Rotherham and Barnsley is immediately west of Wentworth. I used to phut-phut past the sign every day on my way from Elsecar (in Barnsley) to college at the Castle. On my 49cc moped

Might it be good to have a small "Things to Do" section at the end of the entry covering an assortment of fun places to go and things to see in South Yorkshire? That way you can cover the countryside, any big tourist attractions, monuments, stately homes etc in one fell swoop.
Cheers!

OK, what do others think of the suggestion to add some more places to visit at the end?
There are already places mentioned for three out of the four main towns, in the body of the Entry.
I could do another section (but worry that most of them will turn out to be in Sheffield anyway!)and will start making a list while I await your thoughts.
Jules
