It's pretty interesting that you defend the right for a defamed party to reply, since I'm sure you supported my suspension. I may be wrong, since I'm relying on intuition here, so you are free to correct me if I require it.

As for the power resistance thing, I'm not going to belabor this, but to say that if the rules are made up on the fly, and enforced in an arbitrary way, then how can you be expected to stay within them? I'd like nothing better than to stay around here within the rules. If they had any sort of consistency, and could be easily discerned through decree and precedent, I'd have them figured out already, and none of this conversation would be necessary.

And for the comparisons, saying that I share one particular character flaw with a handful of great men is NOT saying that I am like those people, or that our situations are in any way alike. I could list some more people who carried that character flaw, like Guy Fawkes, Timothy McVeigh, or Osama bin Laden. Would that make you feel better?

I manufactured nothing! I complained that there were accusations on that list of illegal activity AGAINST ME. If you are too blind to see past your own rage, and think that I 'admitted' any such thing then you are well past any help.

I don't think it's terribly debatable that the BBC has essentially complete control over this site. Every post, every researcher, every entry, is here only because they allow them to be here. So yes, they do have (near)absolute power, at least here.

It's certainly reasonable to argue that h2g2 is run as a benign dictatorship - but to claim that it's not a dictatorship at all seems blinkered, to me at least. Of course, I'm not an instinctual democrat, so I don't see dictatorships as inherently evil: Pakistan has became more stable and less corrupt since their military coup gave them a dictatorship, for example.

Personally, I feel the most important requirement for a dictatorship to work is good free speech and a free press that is willing and able to criticise the leadership - and that's why I think 'President' Musharraf's reign has worked comparatively well. But that's just IMNSHO, of course...

Produce evidence of these accusations of illegal activity, in their full context, or shut up. This conversation is going in a circle, and I've always found that sort of thing extremely boring.

I can't reproduce the whole thing "in their full context" as that would mean breaking house rules. Something I'm not prepared to do, and also I don't have the entire emails. The only reason that I have this is because they are on the complaint emails I sent.
How much more context do you need to see I was being accused of illegal activity, rather than me accusing anyone else.
If I mean so little to you, why write something like that email that also included other attacks, personal insults and judging my way of life?

Mina, I know we have not always agreed or gotten to know each other but your input has always been valuable to me and your wit always amuses.
I personally find nothing you have ewver said offensive or suggestive or anything more than good fun in the spirit of the wit and wisdom that is supposed to be h2g2.
If that qualifies me to speak as your 'friend', may I suggest you simply unsubscribe from this flame war and ignore these personal attacks before the curse that was LeKZ engulfs you too.
We have lost too many good researchers over this issue and my advice to all is to unsubscribe from it, ignore it and forget it.
Let's get back to what we do best. Have fun, cooperate and be nice.

The trouble is, it will repeat itself in another thread eventually. It's happened before. I think this is the 3rd or 4th thread where I have had to put up with this tripe. I want it to stop.

As Mina says, you lie. The charges were not trumped up nor imaginary-the accusations were there. Oh, and the e-mail in question was the 14/11/01, another slip of memory. You know the one, the one where you stated that "If morality was dynamite [that researcher]couldn't blow [their] nose." Which I suppose is another way of saying, obliquely, that the intelligentsia have greater morality than us mere plodders.
Did I support your ban, Colonel? Well, you find the proof, i.e. one *single* sentence or word that says that. Otherwise don't try and make this about your ban, because it isn't.
And as for the thing about power, my point was (and I apologize if it wasn't clear enough) that as abuses of power go, any that might take place on this web site must, per se, be pretty small. It's a pretty small site. If you want to challenge abuses of power, why not challenge something a little bigger. Or is it just that the idea of not being the notorious "Colonel SellErs" is a little too daunting? You stand out pretty well here, a very "big" fish in a relatively small pond.
And yes, I guess H2G2 is run as a relative dictatorship. I don't see how any web site can practically operate as a democracy. Somebody has to have the final say in graphical design, content, what are the acceptable modes of behaviour. Thats how things get done.
And rules and laws always evolve in a totally arbitrary way, mostly to fit the times they are made in. If that wasn't the case, I'd still be required to do long-bow practice every Sunday morning.

So you stand accused of leading sexual innuendo games, on the internet, in a textual format, in an area where children could participate, and for specifically attracting the attention of one particular child. Is this correct?

If so, then:

1) This is not an illegal activity, so your charge that you have been accused of an illegal activity is false.

2) False charges are defamation.

3) It was your charge that brought down the Folkz mailing list.

I complained to Topica about defamation against me. If those complaints were false, they wouldn't have removed the posts, or shut the site down. Which they told me they were leaving up, under certain conditions. Don't blame me for the consequences of the actions of others if those conditions weren't meant.

Your first paragraph is you rephrasing things to suit your purposes. You manipulate words to make them say what you think they should mean. You need to learn something called responsibility for your own actions.

Topica is not a law firm, they're an independant business who are, for obvious reasons, going to lean on the side of caution when such charges are levelled at things they host, lest their already shaky business model collapses under them.

But please, continue the insults... they do you much credit.
