The Time Has Come...

... the walrus said.

Or something like that.

Anyway, we've got about 6 weeks before the get-together and I thought that we might want to start formalizing some plans. Read this page, then tell me what you think. I can answer any and all questions you might have regarding local hotels, restaurants, happenings, etc. You have but to ask. *bows*

I've got several listed on this page. For Friday, would you rather go to the Natural History Museum - one of the greatest dinosaur exhibits in the world - the Zoo - lions and tigers and bears, oh my - or the Aquarium - peaceful fishies floating everywhere?

smiley - biggrin sounds absolutely fantabulous, G! smiley - hug a fun-packed weekend for us crazy researchers...

few questions, though:

will we have internet (more importantly, h2g2) access, wherever we do stay? smiley - winkeye
will we have enough transportation for all of us?

G7,

Which curry place were you thinking of? Just wondering.

Sea, can you list me as an attendee? smiley - smiley

One place that would be grand to visit would be the Tattered Cover bookstore, and the Fourth Story Restaurant (perhaps for lunch on Sunday) for those still in town that day?

Just thoughts....

sea, it all depends. I have room for a few at my house - which means that those of you financially challenged college students will be alright. smiley - winkeye There are also several hotels in the area, the best to stay at probably being the La Quinta at 120th and I-25. It is located between where I live and work and has dataports. As for H2, I'll move my laptop downstairs and hook it up so that everyone can check in off and on - only a dial-up, so it'll be a little slow - and on Saturday we can stop by my workplace and I'll let you play on the T1 for a little if you like. As for transportation, it'll depend on what vehicles people drive here, but I'm sure that we'll be able to get everyone where we are planning on going. smiley - biggrin

Hullo, Anwaith! The Tattered Cover is a brilliant idea. Which one should we visit, though? The one in Cherry Creek or the one in LoDo? And I like the idea of the Fourth Story for lunch on Sunday too. As for curry, I was thinking the Jewel of India at 104th and Federal. Its where I get my curry fix. smiley - winkeye

Gwen, I've never really gotten that fond of the LoDo Tattered Cover.... maybe it just goes back to the size thing.... Two to three stories of books, compared to five floors packed with books.

Besides, The Fourth Story is the 4th story of the Cherry Creek Tattered Cover. smiley - smiley For those of you wondering, The Tattered Cover is a very large book store in which you can find most anything. The Top floor is a restaurant which is a little pricy ($10+ for Lunch... smiley - sadface ) but the food is very good and the atmosphere is great. For those that do not wish to spend the entire morning searching for that one special book... The Tattered cover is situated right next to a mall, and four square block of shops of all kinds.

I personally hold no fondness for the Cherry Creek Mall. It's very upscale and posh, and expensive. Cherry Creek North, is an interesting place to wander about (particularly The Wizards Chest toy and costume shop)

On another note, what about wandering in the mountains if there's good weather. I like the idea of the Natural History Museam/Zoo and the Art Museum, and rather then indulge in consumerism we could flee to nature. Spend Sunday up in the mountains.

My vote is for the Natural History Museam/Zoo rather that the Aquarium. but that's just me (the Aquarium is very good, not slight is meant for those fans of the fish).

Anyways... enought babble for me for now.

Sea, you are forgetting one little thing...

This is Colorado. Colorado gets 300 days of sunshine a year. It is very possible to have temperatures in excess of 80 degrees in March, and therefore temperatures of a pleasant 60-65 in the mountains. It is equally possible that there will be a bizzard which shuts down the Airports. It is less likely that these things shall happen in the same 24 hour period, but not impossible. smiley - winkeye

The only Month inwhich Colorado has not gotten snow is August. smiley - yikes

Keys to visiting Colorado:
always have a napsack or daypack, with clothes that you can layer. Extra socks and the like.

Always make sure you have a jacket, which you can put on over your layers.

If you don't like the season in Colorado, just wait five minutes (on the average) and it will change. Often in a Monty Pythonesque fashion... "Winter gave spring and summer a miss and headed directly to Fall." smiley - smiley

Firefly

Very much true. In Ft. Collins just a week ago or so it snowed several inches overnight. It was all melted by noon the next morning and has been nothing but sun since.

I love the idea of heading to the mountains, Anwaith. I was actually trying to figure out a way to work it in and I think that Sunday is a great time to do so. Everyone will get a taste of the mountains going to Morrison Saturday night, but being able to show them the real things... This is good.

Gwen,

Did you have any particular mountainous locale in mind? And what do we think would be the best way to enjoy them?

Hiking might not be as fun for those of us in less than perfect shape, not to mention those used to thicker air.

A easy stroll could be enjoyable, or the scenic drive and picnik.

Any thoughs?

I hadn't thought of any specific locale, Anwaith. Maybe just a drive through Golden and up into the foothills in that area. A hike would be nice, but I tend to agree that it is not the most likely of scenarios. Maybe a drive and a picnic?
