A Conversation for The h2g2 Doctor Who Group

I think there is a bit of a contradiction to have a character of a doctor who smokes. I read an interview in which RTD says that episode 3 and 6 are the ones the BBC most edited.

I just think it's utterly ludicrous that he's doing the edits at all. Cap'n Jack might be a hero to the kiddies but Torchwood is not a kiddies' programme and any parent letting a child of less than middle teens watch it is being rather irresponsible.

I agree. And what is he going to do when it gets out on DVD? Sell two different versions when everyone imports US versions of DVDs all the time? How will that help? If it is only for 10-20 seconds how is it worth while?

Not really getting this ... why on earth are they Gwen and the American woman contacting relatives?

Why did the hitman not just rise from the dead to take another shot?

I think the bullets were inconveniencing him, he is still alive of course.

More importantly, in the same scene, did Rex deliberately shoot the assassin in the throat just before he spilled the beans, and if so, who's side is he really on?

Because Gwen and the American woman are utterly incompetant at "going off the radar".

Does anyone know how long will the Miracle Day is going to last as usually Torchwood one story would last two episodes.

I think there's 10 episodes, that was #3

Yeah, it's a similar format to the previous series of Torchwood, where the story unfolds over teh whole series...

I don't mind the way the story is unfolding over a number of episodes. At least the story is progressing, unlike the way a number of American shows seem to move the action one pace forward then two steps back. Also, next weeks show seems to be a pivotal one judging from the trailer.

Didn't someone say #3 was most edited? I assume they got rid of a good chunk of the violence ...

The one scene I did enjoy was where Jack/Gwen meet the IT guy in the park with his wife and baby, and get all his biometrics.

Like I said in post 40, I didn't notice much difference apart from the lack of horizontal sex action in the UK version. I'm guessing you're thinking the scene with the cops kicking Oswald was edited. It wasn't, the US got the same length scene.

Just Bob aka Robert Thompson, plugging my film blog cinemainferno-blog.blogspot.co.uk

We've decided the secret masterminds behind the triangle and Phicorp are the Cosanostra. Look at the evidence: they claim to have been around for ages behind the scenes, the refer to themselves as "The Families" and they kill people (or rather, entomb them alive in this case) by crushing them in cars. So far, so Mafioso! smiley - coolsmiley - yikes
Seriously though, our bets are on some new group invented for this series, although it could be kinda awesome if it turned out to be The Silents smiley - ufofrom the current Dr. Who series.

smiley - sorry That's just been bugging me ever since that episode was broadcast and I decided it was time to speak out!

I don't think that post-hypnotic-suggestion is keeping all those people alive, neither is there any hint that Jack had previous with the Silence. I don't know what the right answer is though.

I don't know either, but am looking forward to finding out what the hinted twist in tonight's episode is.

It is very silly that not a single person managed to go through the whole of the last episode without contacting their families. Surely that is basic stuff. Yes, we want to see Rhys doing stuff, but Gwen going around outside with a mobile phone, talking in broad daylight so she can be spotted when she was supposedly on the run was a bit silly, as was Jack saying 'Please tell us if anyone asks any questions' - surely the best way to raise suspicion.

It's nice to see that they've kept some of the old cast.

I didn't say we needed to see him in every episode...smiley - winkeye
