Those aren't Cybermen...
Dark Side of the Goon Posted Jul 12, 2006
"this is dr who he always moves on.. they are his assistants/companions not lovers.. i think he has them with him for company.. "
It's a good point, but rather contradicted by Jo Grant (and you can see that as an teacher/pupil thing, or Indulgent Uncle/Favourite Niece too) and Ace. When Jo grew up and left, 3Doc was decidedly miffed and very much left out in the cold. 7Doc had a bit of an agenda going with Ace and I've never been able to decide if he was genuinely trying to help her grow or if he really did just pick her up to defeat Fenric. Again, there's more warmth between Ace and 7Doc than just a master/pet relationship.
It's clear from what Sarah Jane says to 10Doc that she had more going than 'bestest mates in time and space' and from the way 4Doc says goodbye to Leela it's clear he was rather more fond of her than he would have been a pet. And to look into this entirely too deeply, someone on another forum suggested that, until he met Madame du Pompadour the Doctor really didn't understand about how humans feel about him. On meeting her, and then reading her mind (and she his), he finally gets it and from this point onwards his attitude towards Rose changes - although he remains unable to just come out and say it. I think that's spot on (and I wish it had been my observation, but sadly not).

flakey-lady.... you lookin' at me punk? Posted Jul 12, 2006
hey overreactionaries.... when i likened the drs interest to us like a kind of pet.. that was not in a derogatory way.. i love dogs, have always had one.. in some ways i prefer my dog to many people..
the point i was trying to make is that the dr is a vastly more advanced creature than humans, yet loves the company the backward old humans...
i'm aware there were touching goodbye scenes with the other assistants.. but nothing i'll wager to the heartbreak scene on the beach, which i found way over the top.. it was an entire orchestra of violins..too much...is my opinion is all, as others are welcome to theirs..

>>it was an entire orchestra of violins..too much...<<
You can never have too much violins, I meant to say in my initial posting how much I liked the music, just because of the violins.
My best mate, who I introduced to the show, just emailed me saying it was a brilliant episode marred only by all the soppiness. Looks like you guys have another recruit.

It's a tragic love affair that never makes it to being an actual affair. I think violins and tears were...ok, maybe not justified but definitely in keeping with the mood.
At least Rose didn't cover herself in flowers and drown herself in a river.
Horses for courses, Flakey Lady. I suppose I'm trying to make all of the series work for all of the people, which is stupid of me because a) it's not going to and b) that's RTD's job.

I'd've paid good money to see that.

Try 'Hamlet'. With the added bonus that Ophelia - the lady in question - goes barking mad before she drowns herself.

Yes Gradient, I think we all knew that.
I do agree with a lot of the comments about the Doctors fellings about his human companions and got more than a little annoyed at the way Rose was seen as being as important. She's a sweet girl but Buffying her up diminished the Doctor.

Well, we've had Antony Head... but who does that make the Doctor?
Surely not Xander?

Evening all
Was on holiday when the last episode was shown Only just seen it.
Can i just say: WOW
Brilliant. Just Brilliant. Everything was spot on, everything on the wish list covered.
I reckon it was a good time to let go of Rose... she was starting to annoy me slighly. But it was very well done. And tears from the Doctor!! That was emotional
Totally ruined by Catherine Tate of all people at the end though!! I'd like to give her a chance though, hope she plays her character well. And it did break the tension.
All in all a brilliant end to the series
I didn't spot the escaped Dalek however... Just where was that?

When the rift was opened for the last time the dalek says "emergency temporal shift" or soemthing similar and vanishes. Did he travel forward or back in time? Surely a plotline for some later episode ....

Yeah, well you can't expect them to kill the Daleks off completely... I'd be surprised if the Cybermen didn't come back either personally

I'm sure they'll be back. And with the Black Dalek on the loose and in possession of sarcasm, anything could happen.

Ah, course the Cybermen will be back! After all, those ones were jusy from a parallel universe, the current Doctor hasn't come up against the 'real' ones yet...

"the current Doctor hasn't come up against the 'real' ones yet..."
I think the 'real' ones are supposed to be all dead, since 'Silver Nemesis'. You know, like the Daleks were all dead after 'Remembrance'. I'm looking forward to the Upgrade from Lumic Cybusmen to Mondas Cybermen.
