Spoilers for Christmas 2008 Special

The gossip is that the Doctor is about to save someone but then this other guy gets there first and saves them. It turns out it's the Doctor from the future and the two of them work together for the rest of the story (and presumably save the day.)

Hmmm ... not sure I'm liking the sound of that.
Couldn't they keep it simple and just make it a Cybermen in Victorian times thing.

Yeah, not sure I'm that keen on a two Doc thing, especially since we just had 2 Docs. Though Cybermen in Victoriahn times could be fun. Though not for the poor people they kill though.

Interview with RTD contains some nuggets about Christmas and the four specials ...
- "It has a very exciting title ... which may or may not get people up in arms."
About specials ...
- "they're all very different, they're all very colourful. they hit the ground running."
- "there are at least two alien planets, maybe more."
- "The Doctor is travelling alone. Each story will have a different companion, a woman or a man of the week to team up with, some great guest casting ... and it won't always be a young girl. In the Christmas special, it's David Morrisey, playing "a brilliant character".

"there are at least two alien planets, maybe more."
Surely the "at least" bit covered the "maybe more"??

Yes, I think it's just the way he (people) speak when they're nervous. He probably doesn't want to give too much away about the Specials until after Christmas.
You'll maybe also like this quote ...
"What about returning aliens? Here he chooses his words carefully: 'I would say ... how can I put this? Two new monsters... no, three! Yes, three."
One other thing ... not a spoiler as such ... next year's specials will commence production in January.

Aw, c'mon... there's a long and glorious history of tautologies in Who!
'The Deadly Assassin', anyone? As opposed to what type of assassin?

Yeah. They're great at expressing themselves aren't they? Good thing RTD puts things better in carefully edited and rewritten scripts.

Ever since I found out that the Christmas Special is set in 1851; my mind has linked that year to The Great Exhibition.
I sort of wiped that idea out when I found the Exhibition happened earlier in the year, and the episode is set on Christmas Eve.
But it occurs to me that the episode might start at the Exhibition with perhaps the Cybermen being presented as one of the exhibits. I'm sure RTD would love to get the CGI people recreating the Crystal Palace and all the inventions it contained.
Just an idea ...

well, there is *a* title for the christmas special out there. And it is 3 words. And it might get peoples knickers in a twist. And it does match with some of the David Morrisey character speculation above. I found it off Mr. Morrissey's IMDB page if you wish to look for it but I shan;t post it here.
Might be wrong of course

Hmmm ... I'm obviously internet-thick ...
All I can find is "Sense and Sensibility"
And then when I look at David Tennant he's just completed "Einstein and Eddington". Are we being led to believe that Albert Einstein invented the Cybermen, or is it Paul Eddington?
Ok ... I found it now ... under the Newsdesk items ...
