I just wish they hadn't done the kiss between Cap'n Jack and... ummm... "Vera". It was totally unnecessary. Not that I have any problem with depictions of homosexuality (it would be rather hypocritical of me if I did given some of the things I got up to in my yoof) but it would've been better handled if it had been all done with looks and innuendo. The goodbye kiss before he went into the rift I have no problem with, it's just the sledgehammer subtle snog five minutes in to the programme.

I thought that was great! It established exactly the sort of relationship Captain Jack and Spike Bloke (I've forgotten the character's name, tsk) actually had. As did the fighting that immediately followed it.

That bothered me a bit too, but:

*I don't think Owen's wound was that serious; I think Buffy-bloke gave him it to wound him and nothing more, and we saw that he'd had it dressed and seen-to.

*Jack's sore back would be gone - the man regenerates wounds, remember?

*Gwen was poisoned but they successfully gave her an antidote which means she was (presumably) back to her old self within a short while. Remember, it might well have been half an hour or so between Torchwood finding Gwen and then finding Buffy bloke.

Ah, don't ya just love TV - an answer to everything!

I missed something right at the end of last night's show...

Did anyone hear the name when the other Time Agent said "Oh, by the way, I found XXXX!' just before he disappeared.

It sounded like "Grey", although it might have been "Grace". Quite obviously part of a new plot-arc anyway.

Did anyone else notice:

*That Captain Jack and Captain John are essentially a doctor-master act; ie both "equals" but one's good and one's evil.

*The blowfish alien mentioned both "doctor" and "master" when he was giving his pompous-villain speech at the start.

They definitely did not pronounce it very clear at least. "

I thought it was "Greg".

I thought it was "Grace" but would definitely need to watch again to be sure.

Overall, I was a bit disappointed with the episode; it seemed that the writer tried to do too much but ended up not doing very much. Also, I'm worried that the "next week" bit at the end was "bits from the rest of the season" because next week is going to be rubbish!

According to the subtitles on sky it was "grey"

The episode struck me as a bit of a "for the uninitiated this is what we do" Captian John filling in for the audience. (You live inside a sculpture? You can't die? etc.) Whilst also being the antagonist of the plot.

Sky's subtitles aren't necessarily accurate though. They subtitle "Snooch to the mothering nooch!" on Dogma as "Dudes to the mothering dudes!".

I heard it as gray too.

Must say I feel there is a chance Torchwood is going to be a bit crowded. Do we really need the james marsters character? We already have one like that. We shall see. And as for bringing in Martha Jones, whom the BBC page says has 'outgrown the doctor' - I fear she may annoy me no end.
But, we shall see. There some good episodes last series. And I do hope they make more of the team. Bit more of Toshiko would be good

I think it is crowded compared to its parent show but if you look into the sci-fi/telefantasy pantheon ("Star Trek", "Buffy", "Blake's 7") there are plenty of shows with large casts. It's all fine as long as the writings good and different episodes focus on different characters.

As I've said before, "Torchwood" has a problem in that only a few characters are properly fleshed-out. Owen and Jack are the only two who feel like proper characters to me. Gwen we know a lot about but she still feels sketchy. As for Tosh - I've no idea how she'd react to any given situation, she just feels devoid of development even though she's had a couple of episodes to herself. Maybe that's the fault of the actress but I suspect the writers are to blame.

Something I liked in "Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang" was that Owen's "Good to have you back, sir" when he was alone with Jack developed his character more than pretty-much anything from series one. It explained why he's quiet - he's an extremely reserved "proper" person.

There were a couple of good episodes last series (I'd single out "Out Of Time" and "Captain Jack Harkness" in particular) but there were also a lot of bad ones and a couple of terrible ones meaning that overall the show was a disappointment and the sheer shodiness in much of the writing actually annoyed me - that all these writers had been given a budget and a series and seemingly took no pride in it. As I said, "Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang" was much better and I'm hoping series two will revive "Torchwood"'s fortunes.

yes, Ianto is one of the more interesting characters. I actually want to know more about him. Whereas Gwen, the supposed sort of second lead, I'm not too bothered about. I think you are right about the writting too.
