Because it wasn't a CG effect and they couldn't get it to move around
For those who fancy an intersting variation on the episode, it's repeated this Friday / early hours of Saturday as part of the Sign Zone with in-vision sign language interpretation.

With all the technobabble in that episode, the signer is going to get RSI.

There should be a special name for big ugly monsters, that only sit, screaming...maybe an acronym? B.U.M.T.O.S.S

Saw it last night, cool!
As many others have said, Catherine Tate was OK. She was annoying, but the doctor was more than a match for her.
Yeah it had a few weak points, I thought the final fate of the baddies a bit weak. But then, no species is ever completely gone in Doctor Who is it
I wonder how many kids in cars on motorways will be occupied by being asked to see if they can spot the TARDIS on long journeys over Xmas?
Can't wait for the new season.

About to make myself the least popular guy here but...
The highlight of the runaway bride for me was not even in the programme. As we sat down watching Dr Who my brothers girlfriend piped up with:-
"Why does Dr Who never regenerate as a woman?"
My brother replied:-
"Because then they would have to rename the programme 'Nurse Who'"
Brothers girlfirend proceeds to try and "get" my brother but slips on her blanket and lands on her bum.
Chauvanism and SLapstick.
Well made me laugh anyhow...

...why is he a doctor anyway, couldn't he have gone on to become a Mister?

Mr. Dreadful - But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am... Posted Dec 28, 2006
Catherine Tate did better than I expected (what with my also being a hater of her normal programme)... Liked having a proper physical beastie of that size, there's far too much 'anything over 6 feet is CGI' in sci-fi nowadays... the performance was a *wee* bit hammy for my tastes but after a couple of minutes I didn't really notice.
My only gripe is that the TARDIS is suddenly able to control the weather... I know that Who canon has never been ironclad and since RTD came along things have become a lot looser but please, that's just taking the Ricky.

Given that you also couldn't fault *that* episode I'm starting to wonder whether Auntie's minions have to sign a "don't say bad things about our product, or else!" contract.

Depends... If he was a surgeon then maybe...

I found a mojor floor in the episode - they left the extrapolator behind at the end of series 1!

Well it thoroughly roused the outlaws and myself from the post-xmas dinner carb-coma, so it must have had it's good points.
A great, Xmas romp, with a proper pantomime villain to boot.
Well it *was* Xmas.
