Oh, that's funny! < cross > is something different from the religious symbol, isn't it!? I didn't even think of that before I hit post!

No, you're in luck. Ever since Vatican II, giggling is not longer a sin! "Giggling like a schoolgirl" is still considered borderline behaviour, but only if you do it around someone prone to that sort of temptation. Nobody like that in this thread, I'm sure, nope, not a one....

I'm confused, why is someone with a nickname that implies they are a member of the Christian clergy campaigning for a Sikh smiley? I'm not saying you can't campaign if you like, but it is confusing.
I say, make the smiley, if it is misused, remove it, if not it would be a useful (sometimes) addition to the smileys.

Read the Personal Space and I can guarantee you haven't (probably) heard of the church before...

What is so wrong about supporting other religions just because you are not of that particular faith? What an incredibly strange thing to comment, yes my name sounds like I'm part of the clergy, and Dr Dre really is a practicing surgeon who partakes in a little hiphop production as a sideline.

Support and promote are two seperate things. As are acceptance and understanding, let alone discussion and arguement.

Rt. Rev. Lesley Gentle Posted Nov 22, 2002
I'd call it support. Having a yellow circle with a cloth turban on its head can hardly be called promotion, it's a piece of headwear and would be respectful to a lot of people if it were included.

I can remember being abrupt, but not necessarily disrespectful.

Why on earth would I worry about being forgiven?
I just need a turban smiley (PC term to avoid offending the anti-religious amongst you all by mentioning the 'S' word)

Pastey Posted Nov 22, 2002
Worrying about being forgiven was not my intonation. Worrying about upsetting people was.
And if you don't worry about upsetting people then you'll not make many friends.

Rt. Rev. Lesley Gentle Posted Nov 22, 2002
Nonsense! You want to live your life as you want to. Why worry about upsetting other people? I try to avoid upsetting people unneccesarily, but sometimes it is unavoidable and there really is need to spend your life in fear of upsetting somebody else.
'If you don't worry about upsetting people then you'll not make friends' - and if you worry about upsetting people all the time you will be a censored caricature of your real self, permanently in fear of causing offense.
Genuine friends are made through complete honesty and a lack of concern about whether you cause offence to them then you aren't just taking part in a grand charade where you both pretend to like each other and act like something that you are not.

But setting out to upset, bait, or goud people just makes for a lonely life.
Anyway, this is far more off topic than usual.

Rt. Rev. Lesley Gentle Posted Nov 22, 2002
Oh you meant setting out to upset. You should have just said so. I agree completely.
I'd still like a turbanned smiley though.
Sikh Smiley
Rt. Rev. Lesley Gentle Posted Nov 22, 2002
That says more about a lack of imagination than the practicalities of a turbanned smiley.
