I put this in the writing workshop, but nobody replied, so I thought I'd grit my teeth and put it here!

It's a brief introduction to the property, and I don't know if it's too basic.

Be kind, it's my first entry!

Nightshade, Guardian Angel and Grey Lady

Looks good to me. A couple of points-in A Brief History are you sure Gothick is spelt correctly? I have never seen it with a k. And in The Whistler Connection, 'this masterpiece is truly stunning inn' to in, and check the spelling of correspondance. That's all- it seems to be a good article otherwise. Signed, a newly-sainted Guardian Angel.

Thanks smiley - biggrin

Extra n removed, must remember to spellcheck!

Gothick can be spelt either with or without the k, I think.

Speaking of spelling, I'm off to spellcheck this!

Zarquon's Singing Fish!

Hi,

I think it might be helpful to say a little more at the beginning about the house, eg how big it is (or was originally as you go on to describe additions), does it come with grounds etc.

Ok, spellchecked, and added that it sits in 169 acres of gardens and woodland.

The thing is, no-one really knows just how big the original house was! It's such a mish-mash of styles, it's virtually impossible to describe without the pics!

It's really the Whistler connection that makes the house so famous.

I take it by the lack of response ( smiley - cry ) that this isn't really Edited Guide material, then?

... actually, I think that it may be more to do with the fact that your entry is so good, that all there is left to do is to recommend it!

I actually haven't read the entry (due to a severe lack of time...), but guessing from the other comments made, I think it is the quality of it which means there should be no more changes made smiley - smiley

I agree with everyone who thinks this is Edited Guide material. Sorry I didn't comment before, but I'm still trying to catch up with a long backlog.

This made me want to visit Plas Newydd - I've seen the signposts on my way from the ferry, but was always too pressed for time to detour: now I think I'll *make* the time!

One little point I'm curious about is the meaning of Plas Newydd. I've seen it translated as 'New Hall' and 'New Palace' - 'New Hall' sounds more likely, as there seem to be a lot of places with that name. Isn't there another National Trust property called Plas Newydd in Llangollen? It might be no harm to mention that, in case visitors get confused.

Good luck!

Wow, thanks guys! Here I was, thinking it wasn't up to scratch!!

Plas means "new hall" as far as I know, but I'm loading a website with a welsh-english lexicon on it as we speak!

I didn't know there was another Plas Newydd, but I do now!

Azara, go visit, you won't be disappointed!

According to the lexicon, Plas Newydd means "new hall, mansion, palace"

I've added it to the top of the entry in brackets, because I don't know how to do footnotes smiley - doh Will a sub be able to do that if it gets picked??

Hi,
skimmed though the entry and liked it. Not much to add.

Footnotes are really easy. If this were GML and I wanted to explain what a footnoteA Note at the foot of an entry, with a link back to the referring place in the entry was, I'd do it like this.

That would appear as

Footnotes are really easy. If this were GML and I wanted to explain what a footnote(1) was, I'd do it like this.

1. A Note at the foot of an entry, with a link back to the referring place in the entry

(Except the number would be a superscript.) GML manages the numbers for you, and lets you click back and forth.

You're welcome. I don't think I've been to Plas Newydd. I used to belong to a climbing club that had a cottage near Bethesda (used to be a tied cottage of the Penrhyn (sp?) slate quarries), just of of the A5. And I've been the island and to Llanfar-P-G for sure. I read the whole article. Looks good!
