Aaaaaghhh! Now I can't stop hearing all those damn songs again! I don't need the bloody albums! I can still hear the songs! Every damned one of them! Aaaaaaaaghhh! Aaaaaaaagh!
Actually, I do have one album. The first Fripp/Summers, which I am not parting with anytime soon. I still can't forgive anyone for the first Dune movie, not even Frank Herbert. whisper, whisper, whisper
I saw that in the theatre and went over to the next room and saw Buckaroo Bonzai again. I needed to cleanse my palette.
Good work, worth all the effort.

By the way, anybody who said it was too long was a weinie. Not too long.

I know exactly what you mean about Dune - I watched it again recently and cringed most of the way through. It was always going to be a tricky novel to do justice to and David Lynch failed. Have you seen any of the US mini-series, which is supposed to be much better?

I apologise for putting those voices inside your head - surely you think at least one song is worth having reverberating around in there? Actually I'm curious about the Summers/Fripp LP as I haven't got it - I take it you like it still? I bought a couple of Summers' solo LPs and thought they were pretty much pants, to be honest. Likewise, there's a lot of Sting's solo stuff that is dubious, to say the least.

There's two Fripp/Summers, if I remember correctly: 'I advance Masked', and 'Bewitched." Fripp works well with Summers. Summer's solo albums were quickly erased and the cassettes used as blanks in my possession. They're all instrumentals and make use of Roland guitar synthesizers and six-string basses and electronic rhythm boxes.
For a few years I bought everything Fripp made and Summers just happened to be on this one. But it makes me respect him more that Fripp wanted to work with him.
I haven't seen the mini-series. I just saw the cassette at the Walmart recently. I was not motivated.
I listen to a lot of jazz now. You have to move some of the pop out of your head in order to listen to the subtleties. Elvis Costello taught me that, though not with his recent effort with Bacharach!

Oh, I agree totally. Pop covers such a narrow band in the spectrum of music (sorry if that sounds pretentious). I learnt my lesson through John Williams and the Star Wars stuff. Haven't quite reached jazz yet though...

Start with Gershwin and Noel Coward and Eddie Lang and Nat King Cole.
End with Don Byron and the Marsalis family.

Ah, now I know some work by that last name - Branford Marsalis played on the first couple of Sting LPs. I thought he was rather good but don't know if it's really representative of his talents.

That's okay. Sting don't work with just anybody. He probably let Branford do some of the arranging.
Don Byron is the finest clarinetist in the world.
