creachy, it isn't as bad as it looks. The SSO is as advertised - your login details are the same for every site - but when they redesigned the registration process they realised that each dna site (and future sites) might have slightly different Terms and Conditions. So the first time you visit a dna site you need to click on the Sign On link but you won't have to go through the whole SSO thing again . The system will recognise that you're already logged in as creachy and will just ask you to accept the T&C.
You don't have to do this every time you visit a dna site - just the first time you do so.

maybe we aren't meant to be even having a conversation here on this. Did anyone else notice this when they went to post?:
>>>Post to a Conversation
This forum is not a public announcements forum. It is reserved for editors to post important news about h2g2, such as new versions of the site, or changes to official areas of h2g2.
Please don't ask questions or post messages here, as we anticipate lots of subscriptions to this page. If you have a query about any of the announcements here, please visit the relevant Feedback Forum - thanks!<<<
oh well
What I was going to say is that I'm assuming that iCan is a site designed for Brittish folk and not us foreigners. It just seems strange that the site doesn't say that (given that this is the internet).
It looks like an interesting project though (even though iCan't).

The wording of the ADDTHREADINTRO has worried people before. It can give the impression that we're not allowed to post in Announcement threads but I'm pretty certain that isn't the intention . I think it's supposed to put people off *starting* new threads here because it would be really annoying to have everyone's Conversation Lists flooded with announcements of birthdays etc.
I'll check in the Suggestions List to see if the need to change the text has been noted.

You can use the GuideML GUESTBOOK to point to your iCan forum.
Which is a different forum, Fnumber to your h2g2 forum. Though your Unumber is constant.
Simple way to send a message is to add somebody to your friends list, look at your adress book, then click the iCan site link "Send a Private Message"
This might be handy... http://www.bbc.co.uk/ican/s_view=messages

the last / should be a ?

Even better if you put a Unumber in the URL
/ican/U42?s_view=messages

There isn't any point in adding that s_view stuff in a link like that. People probably need their own personalised site switchers if they can't adjust the URL themselves and want something quicker than going via the hub page.

Amy, I just checked by pressing the 'discuss this entry' button on the Announcements page, and the text is the same there. It makes sense to have it on that posting page, but not on the reply ones.
I haven't noticed it when replying to an announcement before - has it always been there?
I'm surprised they can't disable the 'discuss this entry' button on the Announcements page, although I guess they just move any convos that get started there.

SEF: People may wish to create a on a personal space. To the iCAN site. "Digibox users."
Some people even log-in via SSO and point straight an thier MP list, first as last.

kea, the text has now been changed .
Disabling the 'Discuss this entry' link is a non-trivial matter due to the way that h2g2 pages are constructed.

It should be possible to prevent posting to the page by changing access permissions though - so AddThread ends up not working.

Yet another DNA site that does not feature the fact that it is :
----------- Powered by DNA, the BBC's community website engine ---------

Smij - Formerly Jimster Posted Jan 10, 2004
That'll possibly be because iCan isn't a full DNA site - it uses bits of DNA welded onto other technology (in the same way WW2 has non-DNA features as well as DNA ones).

Much as anticipated. Take the DNA engine out of h2g2 and dilute it to BBCi taste. The snow flake is in danger of turning to sleet.
Key: Complain about this post
