24 April, 2003: Lifting of Iraq Conflict Policy

Post 1

The H2G2 Editors

During the recent weeks of intense military action in Iraq, we asked the h2g2 Community not to discuss the conflict on site but to discuss the crisis at The Great Debate message board. Now that the frequency and intensity of the military exchanges has diminished, message board users and DNA Community members may resume discussion of the issue in their preferred communities.

We will no longer be removing new postings and articles about the conflict in Iraq, unless they break the House Rules in another way. However, we'd like to point out that we may return to a similar policy should the need arise.

Thank you all for your co-operation in discussing the crisis in the areas specified - and many thanks for your understanding during the recent sensitive period.

So does that mean all the stuff that was modded because of the policy will now be unhidden? smiley - grovel

That is a very good point, Peet. Laziness would suggest not. Also some of it might be defammatory or inflammatory in other ways. So it would have to be checked. Which brings us back to the previous point.

I was thinking particularly about people who had journal entries removed in their entirety because one sentence mentioned the w*r... (not me smiley - smiley)

"Laziness would suggest not."

Please don't accuse the h2g2 staff of laziness, SEF. It's extremely rude.

There's a difference between being lazy and being *practical* and *realistic*, SEF. smiley - smileysmiley - cake

smiley - erm Jim, please correct me if I'm wrong... I know entries can be unhidden if they've been moderated but I thought moderated postings (as opposed to referred postings) were gone for good once they'd been moderated?

SEF

OK then, call it overwork or low priority instead. smiley - smiley
I only meant laziness in the general sense of it always being easier to do nothing (assuming one has noticed there is something to be done in the first place) rather than a specific intent to be lazy. smiley - erm

Yay oh yay oh yay oh yay, at last we can talk about it.

So that's what a genuine 3-way simulpost looks like. They usually get staggered a bit.

Jim, I read it as accusing the mods of not bothering to keep a note of which entries were modded purely because of the conflict policy. If that is the case, then it would be fair comment. smiley - erm

I think SEF was referring to the general apathy of the human race, rather than of the italics specifically. I know if I was an italic, I wouldn't like to be assigned _that_ task... smiley - biggrin

Kaz - why not contribute to one of the documents that's being prepared? The CMPP is being referred to by the Italics, plus I am compiling it. It's at A1006354.

You are assuming laziness is an insult. I personally take it as a compliment when someone calls me lazy, because it means i am efficent and not wasteful or energy and time. smiley - smiley

I think you're quite right, Tango. I know that my caffeinated lifestyle allows me to be lazy 95% of the time, and do the work most people need all their lives for in the other 5%.

Is everyone going to sort out their nicknames now that the policy is no-longer in effect?
