There are Local Elections across the UK on 4th May, 2006, and as a consequence the election guidelines are now in force.

In order to enable balanced and interesting debates, messageboards and discussion forums across the BBC will be operating under the BBC's agreed policies. This means there will be additional guidelines for members to abide by if they intend to discuss election issues.

In addition to the existing House Rules you must:

- Declare if you are a candidate
- Discuss the issues, not the personalities
- Avoid sloganeering
- Avoid campaigning

From time to time during the campaign it may be necessary to restrict or close certain discussions. More information on the BBC's guidelines during local elections can be found here:

Presumably the we Scots, Welsh and Northern Irish are exempt?

I know we had this argument last time, but in politics personality is central so often.

Does this apply to foreign elections cos during the 2004 US election I'm sure we had someone from one of the Party's in of the discussions on here, either that or he knew his American Right politics very well. For a while he was known as The Plant, cos that's what we thought he was

Where's local?

Local as opposed to general elections; you know, the ones that just spread like cheese-mold in the back of your 'fridge...?

A few years ago about a week before the local election the Lib Dem candidte sent a flyer to all homes telling how the conservative candidate had been done for drink driving, the Lib Dem bloke got elected, possibly for the sheer balls he had on pulling that stunt.
