Actually, we didn't know there was a link, but they're really lovely people so I suspect they just did it out of the goodness of their hearts

re: First edited entry...
A27 doesn't count as it's only a welcome page, not an entry.
A207 *was* the first, in that it was one of the first that was supplied by our editing team, in order to seed the guide. However, it's no longer an edited entry.
A559 is currently the earliest edited entry, although it's still principally the product of the old writing team, so isn't really the same as edited entries these days.
Probably the first legitimate edited entry is A1675, which, although it originated with the team, it was subedited and expanded by one of the original sub editors (John The Gardener) so I think I'd pick that as the first 'new style' edited entry.

Well done everyone!
5,000 Entries is truly a landmark! Who's good at maths around here? When should the Guide reach 10,000 Edited Entries I wonder? Ummm....

Jim, "However, it's no longer an edited entry." - in what sense? On the page, it has writer and editor credits, hence it's "Edited"...

Hmm,
Are you sure you're right on that Jim? I subbed A124480 'Weaver fish' before I became an italic and that's dated 26 July 1999, whereas 'coffee' has a lower number, but it's dated 17 September 1999.
I'll have a look at someone like Spartus' page too, I thought he had one that went up before me too...

Assuming 5 edited entries every weekday - that's 25 per week, then another 5000 entries would take 5000/25 = 200 weeks = 3 years and 44 weeks. So the 10,000th entry would be on December 6th, 2006.

I think.

I had 6 edited entries by 17 Sep 1999! The earliest I was involved with is International Driving Etiquette from 12 August that year - A139501

No, it's not Spartus, he comes in at A143650 Pot Noodle (Aug 24, 1999)
What about Cockney Rhyming Slang A649 Date: 18 February 1999? That must have been an old page that was re-used - it's before the site went live!

'Edited Entry' is a classification, Peet. It doesn't just mean someone edited it. As the Edited Guide has evolved, a number of the original entries have been 'declassified' from Edited Guide entries and turned back into standard Guide Entries as they were much more basic than the kind of entry we now actively look for.
*Technically*, this means we passed the 5000 mark a long time ago, but we've never before had 5000 Edited Entries at the same time.
And as we now have unofficial volunteer update proceedures too, it's more likely that rather than downscaling entries we'll look towards updating them.

It's easier to tell in Brunel, but if you look at the entry data box, it doesn't say 'Edited' in the same way that Edited Entries do - in brackets under the entry ID. So now it's the same as if one Researcher credited another.
