I would also like to congratulate Peta. She has always been there for me when I needed her and I wish her all the best.

Congrats to all - it looks like you are all getting the recognition you so rightly deserve !!
Peta - when you got that book in the First Days of h2g2 - did you ever dream that the site would become so much a part of your life?
Lucky you!!!

If I was feeling particularly cruel, I'd fish out the email Peta sent me on the second day of my employment, in which she tried to persuade me to give her a job.
Luckily I'm not cruel. But it's fun to bring up every now and then!

Thanks Parrferris, Shagbark and Swiv!
Good point Feisor!
I've still got the book and I'm very proud to have it! It's really trippy how it all happened really. It all started because I was standing in a really long queue a stationary shop buying a book, I was bored and getting kind of irritated with the wait. I was aimlessly looking around and saw a boxed game of Douglas Adam's Starship Titanic, so I picked it up. It was something like £34 and I couldn't really afford to buy it, so I put it back. But I kept looking at it and thought, what the hell, and bought it.
I played the game and got stuck and then saw that there was a help thing, that I could get to from the net, which I had at work, so I logged on to the starship titanic website and found that it there was a community of Douglas Adams people there, and they told me about the Douglas Adams community, so I went over there too and from there was told about h2g2, before it started, so I joined that too, the day before the official launch.
So all of this happened entirely because I was bored in a shop, and happened to spot the Titanic game. If I hadn't have got stuck in a queue I wouldn't have seen it, and none of this would have happened, and my life would have been entirely different.
Isn't that a trippy thought!

Can I point out that Mark Moxon manages to restrain himself on site, but not in the office?
He's shown me the first email I sent him begging him for a job, typos and all. He's also shown me the first email ever that was sent to the Subs list, in which I burst in saying "Is anyone here, beeline are you here? Isn't this exciting" or something equally embarrassing. If I'd known I'd end up working with him I'd have been much more cool about the whole thing!
But hey, who could have known!

I wouldn't worry. Some of my early usenet messages from the Acorn days pop up in Google when you search for my name. At least I haven't posted your emails anywhere public.
Yet.

You never know if they're going to have comedy value later on in life...

Hope it's only Acorn that that's affecting then. Don't leave us, Mark, or you'll take out the Beeb!

Deja News (or Google Groups as it's now called) is terrible for being able to throw up embarassing things from your past. You can end up writing down a lot of personal stuff in newsgroups and it's all available for friends, enemies and employers ages after you've even posted it.
Sidenote: You can see why Acorns went under, they were useless!

Surely that only applies if you've a funny name, like, Mark Moxon for example.
And look, some other kind Moxon has produced a handy page of links for the Moxons of this world:
