The Chupacabra or "goat-sucker" is the premier mythical beastie where I grew up. Sort of a combination monkey and bat, it preys on goats (hence the name) as well as other domesticated animals: rabbits, cattle, poultry, sheep, horses, cats and dogs. The typical signs of an attack are said to be 3 large puncture wounds on the neck or head and a complete draining of the victims' blood. It's home range is Puerto Rico, Mexico, South Texas, and the American desert southwest.
There's even a song about it, set to the tune of "La Cucaracha."

Also a neat little bad guy on "Diablo"

Really? I'm not familiar with "Diablo." How cool.
There was also an X-Files episode on Chupa, but they pretty much missed the point. The show made the whole thing seem like a really bad case of athlete's foot. Don't know what that was all about.

Ahh yes, one of my fave cryptids. They also made a song on the tune La Macarena. Sounds quite funny. I hope if I get to Puerto Rico to do a bit of investigating on my own.

A cryptid is the term used in cryptozoology to describe an animal which existence is doubted. The Yeti and Nessie and such.

Isn't the song "La Cucaracha" actually about a cockroach? I only know the smallest bit of Spanish, which is obvious by my spelling, but am I mistaken?

Yeah, tihi. But it is really mean to be about Franco and his soldiers.

The song Vamos A La Playa is quite interesting. Not quite the fun summer song you'd think when you read the translation.

Well, thanks to both of you for setting me straight, more or less. You needn't be insulting about my geographic handicap, though. I'm in the Cleveland, Ohio area, where rivers have been known to be set aflame by horrid dreadful creatures, which could be considered mythical. Hasn't happened in a while.
