The best form of transport.
It is non polluting, takes up very little space, zero noise (my huffing and puffing excepted) and it is great exercise. Within a city it is *at least* as quick to go anywhere by bike as by car.

Slightly more dangerous though - unless you're in Stevenage- especially in bad weather. Also I can't balance on two wheels

This would seem in principle to bea good idea and I use a bike for journeys of up to 10 miles orr walk, I'd like a decent rail network in the UK so it does not take more than 9 hours for me to go and see my brother in Aberdeen, I only live in NE England.

I'd definitely use my bike to get to work if I could - I do miss it loads! However, last time I cycled to Portsmouth from Chichester it took nearly 3 hours and I was in great pain at the other end.
I wasn't very fit then, mind.

yep, everyone in London should cycle to work! I actualy enjoy my commute to work now that I cycle in. If I have to get the bus or tube for some reason I am always shocked by the crowds and the delays. Far better to go exactly where I want and at my own pace. Frequently I can get from Surrey Quays to London Bridge faster than cars! and it's loads cheaper and great exercise!
Hurrah for cyclists!

Yeah but Surrey Quays is about 2 miles from London Bridge.
I take the Tube because it's 12 or so mile from my gaff to my office. If I only lived 2 miles from Kensington, I'd cycle too. (Having said that, if I could afford to live near Kensington, I could probably afford a helicopter to fly me to work.)

Biking seems alright, but it does reguire a certain level of fitness. I tried for a few weeks but found it tough going. In Birmingham they put in new tram system and it would have been ideal for me to travel by tram and bike, but what did they do, they banned bikes on the trams from the very beginning. They could have carried bikes easily such as they do on commuter trains. There were parking spaces provided for bikes but believe me you would have been a foolish person to leave them locked up there all day. Another thing Birmingham has plenty of hills compared to other places, London area to me seems quite flat more suited to cycling.
