Dear All
please have a read through of this and see what you think. I think there's definitely a space for this topic and I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned before!

Hi - I really liked this article, it's well-researched and detailed.
If I may nitpick, I'd have liked a bit more detail on what happened between the original 1100cc split window and the introduction of the bay window - as it stands it sounds like they didn't develop the bus at all in between.
Visually, do you think it might benefit from breaking up the paragraphs a bit? I just thought it might look a bit daunting for somebody who isn't technical about cars.
I am though, and I enjoyed it - I'm sure this is one for the edited guide. Groovy!

Hi there!
As a product of the 1960's and 1970's, I have fond memories of more than one VW bus. As a completely non-mechanical person, I have just one suggestion to make your article a bit easier to understand for my fellow non-mechanical persons.
Ladder Frame? Central Frame Platform?
Could you incorporate or footnote what these are and how they differ?
Please?
Otherwise, I found your article informative and understandable, both of which are Good Things.

Right-ho
thanx for the comments. I have done some tweaking and re-jigging explaining the chassis build a little and the development of the splittie. See what you think! I'm worried its a little listy and disjointed so any comments welcomed,

At the risk of repetition - looking good!
One point, and I'm nitpicking again - I'm not sure that the ladderframe chassis is totally responsible for the Type II's dodgy handling. I'm happy to be put right on this one (British cars of the 50s and 60s are my area), but I thought that the swing axle rear suspension played a big part, allowing the rear wheel to tuck under when cornering. It's also notoriously difficult to get a rear engined vehicle to handle well, simply due to all that weight hanging out behind the back axle. High polar moments of inertia and all that. VW did succeed in taming it, but it took them years.
I'm not suggesting you necessarily put any of this in (unless you want to), you might want to make it something along the lines of 'This contributed to the poor handling of the Type II, but explains their usefulness as transporters'. Just a thought.

Ta for the compliments!
I shall certainly have another read-through and think about re-jogging the handling bit. I don't want to get too bogged down in that direction but I know its all important stuff. I shall probably do this tomorrow (clear head, maybe more time?!)

I know I'm repeating myself... for me too!
