Thank you for your comments.
This was my second entry and my first attempt at GuideML. (I worked more on this and then went back to my first (sadly moderated, but not yet dead). I found out how to use before and and when I tried to put them in, all hell was let loose, so I let things lie.
However, I do appreciate your point and will amend it soon.
I hope it's accepted. Time will tell.

If you don't manage it, don't worry, fixing the GuideML is the easiest thing on the Sub-Eds. They actually do it anyway.

I seem to be learning reasonably fast - although compared to what some people can do I've got a l o n g way to go! Not long ago, I couldn't do anything.
Can you answer me a question? Are people prevented from using smileys in their entries? It seems we can use pictures, but my attempts to use smileys has come to grief.

Technically, it's possible:
use <smiley type="smiley"/> <smiley type="devil"/> etc in GuideML and you're there (mind the quotes and the / at the end!)
But there are no smileys within Edited entries (nor are text colours, for that matter). You'd be advised to take them out, or the SubEd would have to delete them.

Oh. I did try putting a smiley in this entry and I think I followed that format (which you have to do in your Personal Space). and while it worked in my personal space, it didnt work in the entry - all I got was a square with a dot in it - I think .
Would a picture be taken out also (if you could find a suitable one in the h2g2 picture library)?

PS: The name of the other philosopher was Vroomfondel - it came to me as soon as I logged out.

Pictures might or might not survive the editing process. You'll have to try that out, as there doesn't seem to be a rule. Excessive amounts of pictures take more time to load and the SubEd might take them out.

I've made the GuideML changes in line with comments received. I think it's now complete. Andy further comments?
