SC, your yarn will now be sent to a sub editor who will give it a bit of a polish. In roughly 4-5 weeks time it will appear on the front page and your life will never be the same again.

Thanks Loonytunes! I've recovered from my celebrational fug now and am once more able to string a sentence together
Nice to know there are sympathetic italics.
When I logged on yesterday, I was going to tell you all what happened to my neighbour's cat (4 houses down from me) at the weekend, but then I found you'd recommended the entry and I didn't have the heart to bring you down with the sad tale. I'll tell you now though.
The neighbours went on holiday for 3 weeks leaving the 3 cats in the care of the lady who lives opposite them. Someone shot one of the cats at the weekend - just a couple of days before they were due to return. The cat survived but the vet had to amputate the shattered leg. The lady opposite had a bit of a collection to help with the vet bills - bound to be a fortune! Then, yesterday, just as I was leaving for work, the neighbour with the 3-legged cat hurried over to ask me to look out for her poor convalescing mog which had disappeared again when she let it out. Everyone, including the RSPCA officers, seems to be pointing the finger of blame at the man I mentioned earlier in this thread. Bad feeling is reaching new depths. Oh dear, oh dear!

Hi Shorn. Waz directed me here. Very useful article. That was an article just waiting to happen I think. I'm going to try your pudding recipe to use up some bird food for soft-bills that none of the birds in my garden ever seem to eat. I also have gun-slinging neighbours who take pot-shots at cats, squirrels and magpies. I've got a few more comments but can't make them at the moment so I'll pop in later.

Oh Hi Sal Long time no see! How's it going? That was nice of Waz.
I expect you'll be surprised at how eagerly the birds gobble up your unpopular soft-bill grub once you make it into a pud for them. Let me know.
The gun-slingers must be part of the rural experience I guess. It's a shame. A water pistol would drive the cats away just as well as a real gun and nobody has to get hurt. I guess it could be argued that it's a more final solution though. You can rattle on the window and the cats will run off but they'll come back when you're at work or asleep or on holiday and do whatever they have in mind -- whether it's killing the birds or using your garden as a toilet. Poor old moggies.

Just a quick one Shorn. The birds love that pud. I've tried all sorts of bits and pieces in it. Can't go wrong - they eat it before anything else on the table and the starlings have a noisy squabble over it. I'm changing my peanuts every few days now to keep up with demand.
Speaking of Waz, birds and cats, go and have a look for Waz's ruddy duck article on peer review if you have time. I think you'll like it.
Sal

Right, I'll nip over and have a look at Waz's entry in my next break.
Of course the birds like the pudding. Don't we spoil them? Did you use up all that softbill food?
