I recommended your entry, it was excellent, one of my favourite bands, very well done.
Can you clear up the following, is is just an urban myth:
the fourth member of the Housemartins was alledgedly sent to prison for his part in an armed robbery. He was the get away driver.

Thank you, Hobbes!
I can clear up that story for you. The Housemartin who ended up in prison was their original drummer, Hugh Whitaker, who left the band in 1987. He was jailed in 1993 for wounding with intent and arson, following attacks on a business partner with whom he'd obviously fallen out rather badly!
There was, however, an indie-pop star who spent a short time in jail for being the getaway driver at an armed robbery. That was the late Rob Collins, keyboard player with The Charlatans, who was jailed for that offence in 1993.
Cars never did the poor guy much good. He died when he crashed his car en route to a recording studio in 1996.
new single

The new single is called ROOT OF ALL EVIL and is the new track from the SOLID BRONZE-GREAT HITS album. It has jusrt debuted in the UK charts at No. 50 which belies how good it really is. It's a return to the earlier, more political days of the Beautiful South and the Housemartins, is about the single european currency and has the traditional beautiful south hooklines. The B-side, FREE FOR ALL is sensational, and reminiscent of THE REAL BLUES from the Biscuit Boy album. SOLID BRONZE came out today in the UK and I have my copy already, brought simultaneously with the new Paul McCartney album, which must make me pretty unique as a 20-year old student.
