Woo-hoo I'm back
We all survived OK and she's now gone off to visit a friend up in Bedfordshire for a day or so before flying back to Canada.
BTW was it a nice toilet brush?

The toilet brush - well as toilet brushes go it is good - the holder is shaped like a Lighthouse which is great!

Sorry I only have virtual that could be realistically distributed up towards Oxfordshire.
The RL stuff comes from Sainsbury's who are trying to get rid of their millenium champagne (massive over order on their part <snigger>. Well I'm mixing and matching their general 20% off offer with an £8 a bottle off voucher - comes down to about a fiver for a pretty reasonable brew
Enjoy your time in Brum. I'm off to London tomorrow myself, so its an early start for me too.
Catch you soon (like in the next few minutes in all probability)

Oh! Thats better - so good to be home
I had an interesting time in Brum last night - useful dinner meeting with a great indian meal, lots of RL and <G&T>! I stayed in a really trendy city apartment - like something out of a magasine - so not like my cottage. It was right in the middle of Brum, in a very trendy area!
Tonight I had a welcome event for some of my staff so have literally just walked through the door - and how about this? Tomorrow I am going to London! Will you still be there?

The London thing was a one day only event, and I'm back beside my beloved seaside now. Even though the day was held in some college slap bang in the middle of Regents Park, I still found being in the city oppressive and the highlight of the day was certainly the train pulling out of Victoria for home.
So, there are trendy bits to Birmingham city centre now? It is a few years since I last stayed in the city, so I guess things have changed quite a lot. I still can't get used to the accent though.
Moving on to "HR" stuff. What do you reckon to this? It was taken from a job advert that has just won an award for the most tortured use of English.
The advert is for a Workplace & Diversity Director for the Business in the Community organisation. The lucky candidate will help,
"make the most of UK Plc's Human Resources by changing its people landscape through inclusivity". They will also make Business in the Community, "the primary catalyst for change and centre of excellence on all things inclusive". Apparently applicants will need to "possess the leadership, gravitas and currency to impact upon your peer group".

I have been in central London - Green Park / Berkley Square - but I feel the same its great to get out! I was surprised to find trendy and happening in Brum. I gather it is different at weekends - mostly professionals during the week

Do you have a fun weekend planned?
Rollos
GreyDesk Posted Dec 8, 2001
If you call buying a Christmas present for Grandma fun, then yes, I have a fun weekend planned.
I'm also going to take the opportunity of liberating my phone line from its near permanent connection to the bowels of AOL () and actually speak to some people. I got my phone bill a couple of weeks ago and it was almost entirely devoid of phone calls. I honestly believe that if I hadn't had the calls to Mum in Canada I would have qualified as a light user!

Still talking to me?

GreyDesk Posted Dec 8, 2001
Yes it is the photos link. But I hadn't noticed that that page had been up for a month, so its hardly fresh news. I'm not a regular reader of the Post you see.
Bizarrely I could tell it was Holland. The furniture and the kitchen design were exactly what I would have expected.
"Still talking to me?" - Don't understand

Holland was great - I know what you mean about the furniture and kitchens! The German ones I have seen are very similar and the Danish one I visited was not that different either ...
When I left my old job where we made the bits to hold kitchens together I thought I would stop discussing kitchens!!!!
Have you ever been to Holland?
Rollos
GreyDesk Posted Dec 9, 2001
Well I don't think you looked any different to the discriptions you've given here and abouts. Its funny, most people when I see the photos look pretty much as I imagine them. Anyway you'll get the chance to check out if I've been lying about myself at the post-Xmas meet.
Have I been to Holland? Have I ever
When I was a student I used to spend a month or more each summer flat sitting in Amsterdam for one of my Dad's old friends. She would disappear off around Europe or to the States, whilst I stayed at her place and fed the cat. I spent the time just hanging around chilling out. Doing some bar and other work as necessary and generally avoiding England as much as I could
At one point I considered staying. I reckoned that I could survive and make a living for nine months of the year, but would need to learn Dutch to make it through the whole year. This ultimately is what stopped me going through with the plan. Oh well, happy days...

You are going to the post Christmas Meet! We will get to meet
it sounds really living in Holland just to look after a cat
What did you study?
Rollos
GreyDesk Posted Dec 9, 2001
Well the poor mite couldn't be expected to open the cans of petfood herself.
And yes it was extremely living in Amsterdam. Many of my attitudes to life and how to live it have been influenced by my time in the city. We'll have a decent chat about it later in January, hey?

Lighthousegirl - back on board Posted Dec 9, 2001
That would be really good
I have very little idea about how you will look, even how old you are
I am really looking forward to Jan - lots of people I talk to will be there
Did you achieve Christmas Shopping today?

GreyDesk Posted Dec 9, 2001
Blimey, you must have a rubbish memory. I've given various descriptions of myself in this and other threads that you're in.
To summarise:
- 6 foot tall
- very short, extremely short or no hair at all
- goatee of similar length
- glasses
- broad shoulders
- big frame torso, its the ribs honest. No, it really is the ribs.
- could do with losing some weight, but even if I did the fundamental discrepency between my chest and waist measurement would remain
- Marilyn Monroe was nearly dead by the time she was my age
Key: Complain about this post
