h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Known for many years by the rather horrid-sounding name of 'Salop', Shropshire is home to the world's first iron bridge (at Ironbridge, funnily enough!), a variety of castles and even Shrewsbury Abbey, home of the fictional medieval monk detective Cadfael. But what else do you know about this pretty county? Share your knowledge with us and help us to write an entry about Shropshire.

in your article on famous people - Matthew Webb from Dawley was the first person to swim the english channel unaided - I dont know if he is a relation of Mary webb who you mentioned
