A Conversation for Talking Point: Human Devolution

Have we left some of our more animalist instincts behind? Like survival?

Um, this 'playing god' of which you speak IS surviving...now the best people who survive are the one's who make the most money, previously it was those who could capture the best land for growing crops or securing the best water sources.

Survival has nothing to do with intelligence overall but a gut-instinct to survive.

The survival requirements have just changed.

The problem is that we would never be where we are without the industrial revolution but that may also have brought about issues with global warming. But the only reason we have the technology to try and reduce global warming is due to the fact that for hundreds of years we have been making things that have required us to 'pump' C02 into the atmosphere.

It's merely unfortunate that heat is required to make things which generally means burning things and combustion creates water and carbon dioxide...ye cannae change the laws of physics.

So, no, we haven't 'lost something' at all. We haven't changed at all on the whole for thousands of years.

The writer of this 'Talking point' has mis-interpreted 'playing god' for survival...same thing. Wishy-washy logic...unless you were playing devils advocate...

Sorry, 3Dots, but the type of survival you're describing is self-survival. Even the infertile can get rich, and many poor people live long.smiley - erm

Survival, as a species, is having procreation out pace elimination by whatever means. Money is not a significant factor or gut instinct, unless it is the gut instinct to procreate.smiley - doh

Don't know what this says about the 'playing God' thing, but I'd like to hear your response.smiley - ok

smiley - cheers
smiley - towel
