A Conversation for Talking Point: Human Devolution
Same race, different situation

Have you ever been through a dark city on a Saturday night and been near a night club? I live outside 2 of them. Human being still have a very definite pack mentality. We have alpha males, stalking for prey, arcanemating rituals and violent assertion of dominance.
It's enlightening!
We still have the same urges. We want to reproduce but have complicated the process with social rules and dating services. Not that I'm complaining, I really like the idea of romance and such, but it's a tricky subject. We still seek out food, it's just that we hire people to do the hunting and gathering for us. Our natural predator has shifted from the mammoth and sabre toothed tiger to the traffic policeman and the TV licensing employee.
We're all just trying to gather resources and hold on to what we already have, I reckon. It's just that easy access to the basics has made us more concerned with the luxuries like entertainment and comfort.
We've lost life skills, sure, but a lot aren't really needed. We don't all (some of us, yeah) need to know how to build a shelter, skin and prepare an animal or build a fire with some damp twigs and a blunt rock. Our habitat has changed a lot, we've just moved on to adapt. It's what we're good at.
I don't seriously believe we'd be telepathic if we only tried hard enough. I'm sure people have invested their lives in such endeavours. I mean, look at Uri Geller. At any rate, doesn't that conflict with the laws of physics? Unless it drained a LOT of calories, that mental energy can't come from nowhere.
So yeah, same people, just different needs in my opinion.
Same race, different situation

Well, said! Our primary instincts and motivations have not disappeared, just evolved along with us.
Survival, as a species, isn't about longevity of an individual. It's about procreation faster than elimination!
