Sis and I could fetch him from Hanover airport (she said).
I'm not fussed either way. Mannheim is much closer to me and will cost less.

Until which date should we set the destination in stone? We wouldn't want to miss some participants because they couldn't book tickets for want of a target airport.

Shall we say Sunday, 24th January? If we go for Hannover, I'll have to try to book cheap train tickets well in advance, too.

I think Toybox meant how long is voting open...

No vote from my side - either place seems nice, Hannover has a slight advantage (perhaps, since I don't know yet if I can stay there overnight)

Blimey, do they still have the Chaos days in Hannover? I thought all that stopped in the late 80s.
(got caught up in it once with my suedehead/doc-wearing boyfriend - not very nice at all)
I'd prefer Hannover - for the simple fact that I like the northern part of Germany and never seem to get there enough. But it's probably as easy for me to get to Mannheim or Hannover so I'm not really too bothered.
Although if you're all counting... I'll vote for Hannover with the proviso that if the people flying in all prefer to go the southern route, I'll go for that because I'm more keen to see them than I am to relive countless CeBIT experiences... oh wait - does anyone know when CeBIT is this year? (ah - March. Good)
Ah... fly in the ointment for Hannover - up to 23rd April it's the Hannover Industriemesse. That means that hotel rooms will be at a premium (probably most people will go home direcly on 23rd - but it may be that they stay the extra night - certainly the people who have to close down their stands might still all be there at the weekend. It also means that anyone who wants to fly/drive/train into Hannover on 23rd might have a diffiult time getting a good price.

Since people are adding conditions to their vote, I'll make my vote more specific. I'll go to Mannheim if I can get a flight. I will not go to Hannover. But I'm quite happy if you all pick Hannover - it's your meet.

OK - if I am to evaluate the votes by the weekend and people are saying they'd do both but they'd prefer the one or the other, can I ask you to vote with a percentage?
For example: 80% MA, 20% H
(In fact that would probably be my vote.)
On the basis of his last post, Gnomon's vote would be:
100% MA, 0% H.
That gives me numbers to work on, and each of us can take into consideration the accessibility from their point of view, the price of hotels etc.
Sunday is the deadline (well, early Monday will do, too), and I will tot up the numbers on Monday lunchtime, after which everyone can starting booking flights, rooms etc.
1. The two figures should add up to 100
2. One vote each
3. Deadline : Monday morning European time (Final decision: Monday Lunchtime.)
Key: Complain about this post
