I make it only 40 centuries! (2600 BC - 1400 AD). The first thing to top it was Lincoln Cathedral, but that was a stone tower about 300 feet high with a 200 foot wooden spire. Some people might not count this. It blew down in a mere few hundred years.

Hmmmm... wonder if I should count the wooden spire or not... do you think I should make an adjustment in my '7'-entry?

I think you should count it. Wooden spires are a normal form of construction for English cathedrals. They are normally tiled or covered with lead. It was certainly listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the first building to surpass the Great Pyramid. I haven't got an exact date for the construction of the spire but it was some time around 1400. It blew down in 1549.

Lincoln Cathedral has its own site. You can guess the URL! (If you can't - let me know and I'll post it on my page.) It states the central spire construction spanned 1307 to 1311 - which means it stood for 238 years!

No, I think these entries have all been moved because there is now a university project on the Seven Wonders of the world and so they shouldn't be going through PR any more
