A Conversation for Talking Point: What Are you Scared Of?
It makes NO sense, but then again, what does?

Yeah, I've got phobias. Two of them, to be precise. Both are quite random and unrelated to each other, but there you go. The first one is lightning. I hate thunderstorms, just because I hate lightning. It frightens me. I shudder and gasp everytime I see a flash of light, and my heart begins palpitating when I hear a clap of thunder. I got this fear from bad experiences in which I was exposed to much lightning in a potentially dangerous situation. I realized the height of my phobia when I called my boyfriend over the summer. He's from Shanghai, which is thousands of miles away. When I called him, he was in the midst of a thunderstorm, and I could hear the booms in the background. He was fine, but it was making ME nervous! Go figure.
My other phobia is aliens. I don't even believe they exist (at least, they haven't visited earth or anything). But I think it's the thought of sentient beings other than humans running around who happen to be superior to us as well. It gives you a sense of hopelessness and fear. When I saw "Signs", I couldn't sleep that night, not even with the light on. Everytime I closed my eyes, I saw an alien standing before me, ready to work his evil upon me...ahh! I'm going to freak myself out now!

Also, I forgot about my fear of needles. It's not really a phobia, but I can't stand the things. I can't give blood because the thought of needles makes me want to pass out. In fact, the last time I had to get immunization shots, I had to lay down for twenty minutes because I apparantly started going pale and sweaty. Erg! If a movie or show starts showing a needle injection, I can't watch; I start getting sick (that and surgery). I don't know what the cause of this is, but it ended my dream of becoming a vet...

Any sort of creepy crawly gets me running.
My worst phobia is stupid. I pondered for a long time what would be in Room 101 for me and I came to the conclusion it would be anything to do with the devil. Maybe it's to do with being raised a Catholic but I can't watch or read anything to do with black magic or the devil making an appearance. I even had a nightmare once about The Omen without actually seeing the film! It just plain terrifies me.

Actually, I used to have a fear of that, too, though it's lessened somewhat. Once, when I was younger, I saw a picture from the movie "The Exorcist" and it literally kept me up all night, and I was paranoid that I was going to get possessed, or something. But I haven't seen the movie, either! Go figure.
