Hey smartgamer why didn't you cover some of the actual law (state the name or something) in your entry about US law?
You should have included a bit more info really. It didn't say anything most people shouldn't already know. I'm not trying to knock you or anything I just thought you should have been more concise.

If you had seen the actual law, you would know.
"A computer virus is defined as any program that is detrimental to the functioning of the computer."
Doesn't that outlaw Windows 98?
"A computer is a mechanical construct of silicon, metal, plastic, and other compunds, made for the purpose of solving equations and displaying the answers, often integrated into a more complex environment."
It's a gadget that shows stuff.
Etc...

Work in progress for Canada Law. Can't find much. Most is still "on hold" (is waiting for bugs to be worked out). This may take a while.

MITH *strides into Canadian parliament, slams fist down on nearest desk* 'Alright, I demand you idiots compose a simple, yet comprehensive law dealing with computer crime. Specifically dealing with malicious code and computer viruses. And I want it yesterday!'
Just do a bit on the current state of the law(s) regarding this, MITH.. try to keep it non-technical... Perhaps you could talk to an RCMP computer crime officer, who may be able to give you a brief overview in more-or-less plain language. I have found that the cops are surprisingly eager to discuss things if they know you aren't connected with the media. Tell 'em you're doing a report for school or something..
Next best bet would be a law student, next best would be a Crown counsel ( Prosecution ), next best would be a law professor at a Uni., next would be a judge who dealt with corporate and tech crime, (although they would insist on talking off the record! ). Dead last would be a practising lawyer....
Good luck
