Jahvol, mein commandant *clicks jackboot heels together*
I believe I'll concentrate on DDOS (Distributed Denial Of Service) attacks, and how they are set up using 'Zombie Trojan' infected computers.
I'll start on this next week, ok?

Don't worry, RedFish. When I add you to the project, you will become a Field Researcher- not the other way around! Start writing your article; you must let me know when it's done and where it is so I can link to it.
Get cracking, everyone. Those six weeks will go by quickly!

OK, "What Is A Virus Scanner?" is complete. Can y'all tell me what you think of that and my other Article on this? Before long, I'll have it done by myself, at this rate... heh, we can always add more topics.

smart(ypants)gamer Yeah, I suppose I'm a glutton for punishment But you don't have to rub it in!
And BTW, this entire topic is *huge*, so even you will be kept busy.
I just have to finish the current project I'm working on, and then I'll put together the DDOS thing. I already have most of the information I need, I just have to check a few historical incidents, such as the DDOS on Yahoo some time ago, and the well-documented one on GRC.

Never mind, Taliesin... I got it confused. The WHY is gonna have to do some deep psychology searching... it's RedFish who's gonna have trouble.
Good luck, then, Red!
I'm gonna snap up a hard one too...
SUBJECT TAKEN:
Laws Against Virus Writing (USA)
Someone who actually lives in the UK would do better for the UK part. I'm an American, so I'll cover that law one.

Well the good thing about psychology is that its all basically a guess
But im not, of course, but I have to reasearch other pople's guesses...

Redfish, if you want a little help on the psychology thing, I was a Psych major at Uni, and worked in the field for a number of years.
Also, psychology does not cover all the motivations for malicious code creation/use -- there is also the international terrorism aspect...
SmartGamer, you're right: the DDOS thing is not all that hard, and won't take but an evening or two to complete
BTW, how about an article on security measures for personal computers? This could cover such things as anti-virus, firewalls, security settings in browsers and e-mail client software etc..

RedFish ><> Posted Aug 3, 2001
That could be good, because viruses of course arent the only security threat, there's hackers 4 instance...
Ill let u know if i need anything, thanks

Great job, . Just a couple things to change:
1. Change the title to "Project Computer Viruses- Why do people write viruses?" Just add "Project Computer Viruses-" to the front, like me.
2. Read the other conversation I have up here, which I asked you to read anyway, and add the (really cool) code in it that will display a little homemade smiley by abusing the tag, it looks like a crashed computer.
3. Add a Back To The Index (A600599) link at the bottom.
Just look at one of the others- it will make sense

Ok, All done
Regarding the current viruses page: wont that become out of date very quickly?... unless the page is constantly re-edited with up-to-date information...?

I'm going to do the Current Viruses page right now. It's just going to be a little article with direct links to McAfee, CERT, and Norton. I won't have to keep updating it
